The specific Apple products affected include: iPhones and iPads running versions prior to iOS/iPadOS 16.7 or 17.0.1 Apple Watches on versions older than watchOS 9.6.3 or 10.0.1 Macs running macOS Monterey versions before 12.7 or Ventura below 13.6 Safari browsers that haven't been updated to version 16.6.1 or later The good news is that Apple has already released updates that address these vulnerabilities. To ensure your device is secure, it's crucial to update your iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and Mac to the latest software version available. “Apple has released iOS and iPadOS updates to address two security issues, one of which could have allowed a user's passwords to be read out aloud by its VoiceOver assistive technology. The vulnerability, tracked as CVE-2024-44204, has been described as a logic problem in the new Passwords app impacting a slew of iPhones and iPads. Security researcher Bistrit Daha has been credited with discovering and reporting the flaw. "A user's saved passwords may be read aloud by VoiceOver," Apple said in an advisory released this week, adding it was resolved with improved validation.” Apple patched a security flaw (CVE-2024-44207) affecting the new iPhone 16 models, which allowed audio to be recorded for a few seconds before the microphone indicator turned on. The issue was in the Media Session component and has now been fixed with better checks. Apple credited Michael Jimenez and an anonymous researcher for discovering the vulnerability. The fact that this flaw affected a flagship device like the iPhone 16 highlights how even top-tier tech can have significant security gaps. Be mindful of the permissions you grant to apps, especially those involving audio or camera access. https://lnkd.in/gufBK-Tb #cybertronium #cybertroniummalaysia #dataprivacy #mobilesecurity
