If you’re new to VC, one great way to start networking is to join slack groups that have virtual coffee matches every week. When I started, I was a part of multiple & each week I got paired with different investors across the ecosystem. Starting with a blank networking slate is hard, so highly recommend trying this your first couple of years in VC. Here are some slack groups that have #virtualcoffee channels: Emerging Venture Capitalists Association (EVCA) Gen Z VCs 500 Startups Global Women in VC VC Unleashed VCFamilia Are there others?👇🏼 #venturecapital #startup #recruiting

We have a handful of seats remaining for our 2nd biannual "Moves in VC" reception+dinner next week at #SFTechWeek, with 35 venture firms and LPs already confirmed to attend. It's an incredible group of investors, whose firms have backed some of the most iconic companies in startupland. 👉 If you are a senior VC or LP who has made a move in the last 12 months (new firm/fund launch, changed firms, or promoted), give us a heads up so we can consider you for one of the remaining seats --> https://lu.ma/2i17dp33 We track hundreds of fund closings, investor promotions, and investor firm changes every year, but we do miss a few (maybe yours?) and so I wanted to let you know about this if our team hadn't already reached out directly👇🏻

At our recent Assembly, Hangyul Lee-Song and team at Briter and V54 Open Impact (via Ventures 54) launched their Beyond The Noise Report, looking at investment trends for women founded startups across African markets. Today, women-founded businesses account for only 11% of deals and receive just 6% of the total funding volume across the continent. The report explores these numbers, as well as nuances from the type of funding raised by women vs men founders, to the length of time it takes to raise rounds, to the ways this differs across sectors. Here's a roundup of key insights from the report. You can download the full version here: https://lnkd.in/d3sh4fGq

FOUNDERS FIRST 🌟 How VCs can build a platform for success? According to Melvyn, it starts with fostering diversity and ensuring good governance at board level. Investors have an important role to play in championing more women founders in tech startups. In addition to the moral obligation to bolster diversity, studies have shown that businesses with a women founder or co-founder outperform those founded by only men by 30% 📈 The strongest entrepreneurs use good governance as a lever to drive business value, as opposed to viewing it as something that constrains them.🚀 Thanks again to the AVCA - The African Private Capital Association organization for another great event!

Last week we attended the 2024 Antler European Founder Conference in London, here are our three main takeaways: 🔎 Decentralized Talent and Capital: We’re witnessing a decentralization of talent and capital, with unicorns emerging from diverse parts of the world. This is reshaping the global startup ecosystem in the era of globalization. 📈 European Venture Trends: Technical founders tend to outperform non-technical founders. 70% of US tech giants have technical founders compared to only 26% in Europe. However, there has been a significant shift since 2023, with unicorn founders with tech backgrounds increasing from 26% to 54% in Europe. 💡 Talent Dynamics & ESOP: While European founders often move to the US for greater funding and higher exit multiples, Europe offers more affordable talent. The fragmented and often complicated employee option pool system in Europe contrasts with the more streamlined US approach. This contributes significantly to the higher general capital markets engagement of Americans over Europeans. #VentureCapital #Antler
