Delong and I published the paper below exploring how open-mindedness influences information avoidance. Intriguingly, the impact varies depending on whether the information source is generic or tailored. Orgelian Specified Complexity - William Dembski https://lnkd.in/geFWCWqX I have presented Orgel’s account of specified complexity so readers can decide which they prefer, Orgel’s or the one described in this series. “Orgel introduces the term “specified complexity” in a section titled “Terrestrial Biology.” Elsewhere in his book, Orgel also considers non-terrestrial biology, which is why the title of his book refers to the origins (plural) of life — radically different forms of life might arise in different parts of the universe.”

It's always a pleasure to receive a contributor copy in the post, and this was no exception. In the Lap of the Synth was one of those stories I really enjoyed writing. And... I'm really looking forward to reading the whole book - a mix of fiction and the academic (published by Routledge and available from all good and bad bookshops). https://lnkd.in/e7gQ-iPX The blurb... Why is this book so important ? Nicholas Copernicus published De revolutionibus orbium coelestium in 1543 which describes an alternative model of the universe where the earth revolves around the sun and not vice-versa. Deemed heretical at that time, the book was added to Index Librorum Prohibitorum (Index of Forbidden Books) in 1616. To counter the restrictions of that period, this book (part of the 3rd edition) was published in Amsterdam in 1617 so that its message could continue. This book offers so many lessons from both within its pages and through its history in society. There will always be resistance to changes in philosophy, but ultimately truth will prevail.
