📣 Save the Date! 📣 Join us on 21st August for an in-person technical event, “Microbial Marvels: Unveiling the Hidden World of Decay and Renewal”, presented by our BioTECHT principal, Dr. Laura Machuca Suarez. In recent decades, we’ve come to appreciate the ubiquity, diversity, and significance of microbes. These ancient life forms have thrived for billions of years, adapting to extreme and ever-changing environments. While microbes are essential for life, their natural processes of degradation can lead to undesirable effects, including material decay and premature industrial equipment failure. However, understanding this microbial world is not only crucial for averting harm but also for harnessing their potential. Microbes hold the key to healthier living, clean energy solutions, efficient waste management, and numerous sustainable applications. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn more about microbes, their profound impact on corrosion and their potential for our future! This is a joint technical event by Engineers Australia, Materials Australia and the The Australasian Corrosion Association Networking drinks sponsored by TECHT. Register here 👇 https://lnkd.in/eCSCNu3Q See you there! 🌍🔬

The Special Issue "Biogeochemical Element Cycling in Plant–Soil Systems: Implications for Ecosystem Dynamics and Services" edited by Dr. Daniel Puppe and Dr. Wajid Zaman is continuing for submission. Manuscripts regarding theoretical approaches, controlled field and/or laboratory experiments, and studies on non-manipulated terrestrial ecosystems are welcome. The aim of this Special Issue is to substantially deepen our understanding of biogeochemical element cycling in plant–soil systems and its effects on ecosystem dynamics and services in a changing world. 🎈Welcome to read and contribute to us at: https://lnkd.in/grTYZviT

We recently participated in the IEEE WCCI 2024 conference, which this year was held in Japan! 🇯🇵 Building on top of our work on the EU-funded ScaleAgData project, and through our Research and Innovation Lab of Soil Health that is led by ILVO (Instituut voor Landbouw, Visserij- en Voedingsonderzoek), we developed maps of topsoil properties in the region of Central Macedonia, Greece using the PRISMA hyperspectral sensor of the Italian Space Agency. This is an exciting first step as we are eagerly anticipating further space-borne hyperspectral imagery from Kuva Space 🚀. In this paper, we developed a novel multi-objective TSK fuzzy model which is optimized using the Differential Evolution algorithm and automatically learns rules of the 'IF-THEN' form from the data; thus linking the space-borne reflectance values of the bare soils with the topsoil properties. You can find out more about our paper once the proceedings are out! 📚

I was briefly featured in the latest video by Gesellschaft für Tribologie e.V., where I was captured discussing the experimental testing of tribological systems such as clutches and synchronizers at our Gear Research Center (FZG). For further insights, refer to our peer-reviewed publication titled „Experimental Setup for the Investigation of Wet Shifting Elements“ published in TuS (https://lnkd.in/dVe-nrYm).
