🇨🇦 An Immigrant Helping Immigrants | On a mission to help 100K immigrants and students move to Canada and build their dream life | Founder of theRenewMe Follow me for immigrating to Canada and building your career.
This piece of advice can be a game-changer for newcomers. Moving to a new country can be an exciting adventure but also overwhelming. If I could share just one piece of advice for new immigrants and international students, it would be: ↳ Make Connections Connecting with others can open up a world of opportunities and make your transition smoother. Here’s how you can start: 1) Join Local Groups: Look for community organizations, clubs, and cultural groups. ↳ These communities offer support, friendships, and practical advice. 2) Attend Events: Go to social, educational, and professional events. ↳ Universities, community centers, and local governments often host gatherings where you can meet people and learn about local resources. 3) Use Social Media: LinkedIn is great for connecting with professionals in your field. Share your journey, ask questions, and look for mentors. ↳ Building a strong online presence can lead to internships, job offers, and collaborations. 4) Volunteer: Helping out in your community not only feels good but also helps you meet people and gain local experience. ↳Volunteering can teach you a lot about the culture and help you make lasting friendships. 5) Stay Open-Minded: Be willing to meet people from different backgrounds. ↳Every connection can teach you something new and make your experience richer. It's not just about who you know, but how you build relationships. Genuine connections can offer guidance, support, and opportunities. Don't miss out! P.S. I post daily content about navigating life in Canada. ↳ Follow me, Sara, and hit the 🔔, so you get notified on my next posts.

I was delighted to record Episode 7 of Navigating New York with current Digital Marketing Graduate Rhiannon Gilvarry. If you are about to embark on your J-1 Graduate Visa year in the US, or currently navigating the challenges of living and working in New York City I really enourage you to listen to this episode. Rhiannon is a shining example of what it means to embrace this opportunity with optimism, determination and strategy. Rhiannon, who has been in NYC for the past 9 months, is truly an inspiration. From joining the IrishNetwork NYC Board and getting involved with AwakenAngels Digital Irish the Irish Business Organization of New York, Inc. she’s shown exactly how to make the most of the J-1 experience. Rhiannon recently spoke on a panel for Graduate Gateway (a must know network for current J-1’s!) and is giving back so much to the community - in turn bringing her more opportunity in NYC which she grabs with both hands. Having come to the US on a graduate visa 10 years ago, I know how challenging it can be to secure employment, find a place to live, and get adjusted to the pace of New York—especially within that small window of time you have to actually secure a job! But Rhiannon has navigated this transition with focus, energy, and commitment, and her advice is invaluable. In this episode, Rhiannon shared some practical steps for finding gainful employment, tips on building a network, how she found the right accommodation, and the importance of staying positive and proactive. It’s packed with incredible insights that can help you make the most of your year in NYC I’ve learned so much from Rhiannon in the short time I’ve known her. Her drive and resilience are incredible, and although her J-1 year is almost over, I have no doubt this won't be the last New York will see of her🗽 🎧Listen now to hear Rhiannon’s story and get essential tips on having the best possible graduate year in NYC! https://lnkd.in/ds58xqt #J1Visa #IrishGraduates #NYC #CareerAdvice #Networking #GraduateVisa #Immigration #WorkAbroad #IrishInNYC #NetworkingTips #AwakenAngels #DigitalIrish #IBO #IrishNetwork #GraduateGateway #Podcast #NavigatingNewYork

Starting over in a new country with zero connections? That’s been my life as an international student in Toronto! 😅 Here’s what I’ve learned along the way: Network Like a Pro: I’ve joined clubs, attended events, and struck up conversations with strangers. You never know who might become your next friend—or future employer. Confidence is Key: Believing in myself and my skills has been a game-changer. Sometimes, you just have to fake it till you make it! Be Honest with Employers: I’ve found that honesty builds trust. Plus, it’s refreshing for employers to see that you’re human and not a robot. Speak Up Respectfully: Sharing my opinions confidently yet respectfully has helped me stand out. It shows I value my voice and the voices of others. Starting over isn’t easy, but with a dash of confidence and a sprinkle of networking, I’ve seen incredible progress. Keep smiling and pushing forward! #NewBeginnings #Networking #Confidence #InternationalStudent #Toronto #CareerAdvice
