Blackened catfish is especially delicious! The reason we have fish in the river is because most of the water that flows into it has been cleaned by wetlands. The river has an enormous watershed, but it’s still just a river and watershed like any other. The hundreds of thousands of acres of wetlands in states in that watershed are needed to keep the river alive. If one state, as Indiana plans to do (https://lnkd.in/gJtkyF7V), strips all protections from their wetlands and paves many over, the river loses the clean water that wetland used to provide. Some will say, “So what? We’re not filling ALL the wetlands!” OK, but what if every state in the Mississippi River watershed decided to do the same thing? Even one state destroying its wetlands is a disaster for the river and for the other states in the watershed, which will need to shoulder an even bigger share of the burden of keeping the river clean.
