As part of the Trelleborg Group, its pipe repair solutions operation has set sustainability goals for cured-in-pipe place (CIPP) materials and trenchless equipment. The climate target is to halve direct and indirect CO2 emissions (Scope 1 and Scope 2) by the end of 2030 compared with the base year 2021 and reduce emissions along the value chain (Scope 3) by 25 percent during the same period. Matthias Peppel, Product Manager Consumables, explains, “Trelleborg is currently investigating ways to Increase the share of recycled or bio-based raw material in the product portfolio and reduce the amount of CO2 released during the whole manufacturing process.” “One example of the actions that are already in place is the manufacturing process of the liners. All solutions are here – what are we waiting for? Thank you Cepi for hosting "Energy Efficiency Solutions Forum Day - Towards energy self-sufficient papermaking" in Brussels last week. The pulp and paper industry is the fourth most energy-intensive in Europe. Reducing its energy consumption will play a big role for Europe in reaching climate neutrality by 2050. Key take ways: 👉🏼By integrating fossil-free energy sources, energy-efficient technologies and innovative business models, the pulp and paper sector can cost-effectively achieve decarbonization. AND enable less dependency on plastics and fossil-based materials by replacing it with bio-based solutions. 👉🏼The industry could cut its energy bills in half by recovering heat. Already today, heat recovery based on industrial heat pumps are enabling energy savings for many industries. 👉🏼Commercially available large heat pumps and steam compressors can now heat up to 200°C, meeting the pulp and paper industry’s needs. 👉🏼The industry face challenges to execute and finance heat recovery projects based on new and combination of technologies. Energy as a Service-partnerships could fill a gap in executing these projects.

The production of our metal formed parts, plastic pallets and containers is very energy-intensive. Since the beginning of 2022, we have been significantly reducing our electricity consumption at the Herzebrock-Clarholz and Oelde sites with the help of electricity from renewable energy sources, i.e. produced in a carbon-neutral manner (60 percent in 2022 and 100 percent in 2023).
