Did you know a majority of states still charge fixed copays for prescription drug benefits, but some use coinsurance to encourage participants to seek more cost-effective care? Plan design can influence health outcomes. Segal’s 2024 State Employee Health Benefits Study contains a wealth of data on peer plan design in other states and regions across the nation. Data like the average participant cost per visit for primary care, urgent care and ER services in all 50 states — data that can reveal whether your plan could be doing more to control costs while improving quality of care. What’s more, our new interactive tool makes it easier than ever to make cost comparisons and evaluate your state's plan against peer groups. Every new year brings resolutions which many times includes a commitment to a healthier lifestyle. This year may also include more people discussing weight loss medications with their medical care team due to the widespread media coverage and marketing we have seen in 2023. For employer health plans there are still many outstanding questions: Should these medications be covered on the health plan? How much will employers pay for these drugs? How much of the drug costs will be shared with employees and family members? What are the benefits beyond weight loss that are now being studied and explained to the medical community? What strategies are available to mitigate the cost of these medications? MakoRx dives into these burning questions in January's blog post. What do you think? Our team is here to be a resource for plans and consultants looking to challenge the status quo. #healthcare #pharmacy #healthcareinnovation #patientexperience #medical

Join the #ASCOAdvocacySummit action virtually using the ACT Network. Urge your Members of Congress to: 1. Help end #DrugShortages by acting to remedy the economic factors that drive generic manufacturers out of the market, reward reliable U.S. manufacturing of critical and supportive medications, recognize potential shortages earlier by increasing the Food and Drug Administration’s visibility into the supply chain, and relay information about potential shortages to health systems and providers earlier to help them prepare for and mitigate possible supply challenges 2. Support federally funded #CancerResearch by providing robust funding for the National Institutes of Health, the National Cancer Institute, and the Advanced Research Projects Agency Health for fiscal year 2025 3. Permanently expand #telehealth flexibilities in Medicare by cosponsoring the CONNECT for Health Act (S. 2016 / H.R. 4189). The bill would permanently extend the telehealth flexibilities put in place for Medicare services during the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency Take action here: https://brnw.ch/21wIWqZ

Senior Marketing & Insurance Executive | Expert in Group Benefits & Financial Services | Proven Track Record in Strategic Initiatives & Revenue Growth
The high cost of healthcare is leading some Americans to make tough choices—often at the expense of their health. According to a KFF Health Tracking Poll, healthcare services and being able to afford prescription drug costs are top worries for Americans. The poll found that about three in four adults say they are either “very” or “somewhat worried” about being able to afford the cost of health care services (73%) for themselves and their families. And over half of adults (55%) say they are “very worried” about being able to afford prescription drug costs. President & CEO at The Alliance | Self-Funded Employers | Health Benefits | Quality Measurement | Healthcare Payment Reform
Employers’ medical spend trend is increasing and prescription drug spending is now 40 – 60% of their total spend. The outcome of the presidential election, as well as state legislation, could influence the prices we pay for healthcare. The Alliance's next webinar will explore key issues on the legislative calendar and how they could affect self-funded employers. I will be moderating a panel discussion focused on proposed health reforms that could impact self-funded employers in 2025 and beyond. Join us to get the necessary insights to confidently navigate possible health policy changes and inform your organization. We will explore important issues including #healthcarepricetransparency, employer access to data, and PBM reform. Register below. https://ow.ly/kROQ50Ttowv

The Commonwealth Fund’s 2024 report claims the United States is “in a class by itself,” spending the most GDP (16.5%) on #healthcare yet achieving the lowest performance ratings among its high-income counterparts. When analyzed for #AccessToCare, care process, administrative efficiencies, equity and health outcomes, the U.S. comes in almost exclusively last place among other high-income countries. The category the U.S. ranked highest in was care process such as prevention, safety and patient engagement which ranked second out of 10. This might be attributed to programs like #Medicare with #ValueBasedCare models which encourage preventive care and patient engagement. I’ve previously called out how Americans pay nearly three times higher for prescription medications than other high-income countries but from these findings, it’s clear that access to medication is not the only place our system would benefit from innovation and transformation. While we continue to invest in improving healthcare, we still haven’t found solutions that support both patients and providers and improve our performance when compared to peer countries. Read the full report here (https://lnkd.in/eTeksDc2) and let me know in the comments how you think we can improve our performance.
