𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗥𝗶𝘀𝗸𝘀: 𝗔 𝗟𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗼𝗮𝗱 In 1993, during my first job at Tata Motors in Pune, I had an experience that stayed with me for life. I was living in the Telco Colony when, one Sunday, my friends and I decided on a whim to ride our bikes to Mahabaleshwar, a beautiful hilly town not far from Pune. The ride was smooth, but the return journey took an unexpected turn. It started to rain heavily as we made our way back. I was riding with a friend, navigating the narrow, winding roads when suddenly, two large trucks appeared in front of us. The road was two-way, without a divider – hills on one side, a deep valley on the other. With the rain pouring down, applying the brakes or changing lanes wasn’t an option. In that split second, I had to make a decision – a decision with maybe a 0.1% chance of survival. The only choice was to steer the bike between the two trucks. It all happened in a fraction of a second, and somehow, we made it through. My friend, gripping onto me tightly, was terrified and scolded me afterward, his fear obvious from the way he dug his fingers into my back. Looking back, I don't know whether it was the right or wrong choice. But what I do know is that sometimes in life, when faced with impossible situations, you have to take hard, instant decisions. I completely agree with the sentiments expressed about the tragic loss of two TCS employees in Bengaluru, and the similar incident in Pune where a Porsche driver killed two IT engineers. These heartbreaking events highlight a broader issue facing our nation. As an engineer and a taxpayer working in the private sector, it's disheartening to see the lack of strict action and effective policies from the government. In Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh, we still struggle with inadequate roads and poor drainage systems. Just recently, government officials came to seal basements in my neighborhood, yet they haven't addressed the need for proper roads and parking spaces. It's frustrating and painful to witness the government's negligence towards essential infrastructure and the well-being of students and working professionals. The youth are supposed to be the future of our nation, yet they are continually let down by these systemic failures. The loss of these young lives is a tragic reminder that we need immediate and concrete action to improve our infrastructure and ensure the safety and well-being of our citizens. Did you know that two Indian legends, Sudha Murty (chairperson of Infosys) and JRD Tata, crossed paths for the first time in 1974? TELCO (now Tata Motors) posted a job ad at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) looking for brilliant young, bright engineers with a good salary, but in the end, they had mentioned that 𝐥𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐲. This made Sudha Murty angry. Determined to challenge the prejudice against female engineering students, Sudha decided to write a letter to JRD Tata. In the letter she wrote, "Sir, JRD Tata, when the country was not independent, your group started the chemicals, locomotive, iron, and steel industry. You are always ahead of the times. In this society, there are 50 per cent of men and 50 per cent of women. If you don’t give an opportunity to women, then you are cutting off the services of women. That means your country will not progress. If women don’t get an education and job opportunities, then society or a country never rises, and this is one mistake of your company." Ten days later, she received a telegram asking her to appear for an interview at Telco's Pune facility, at the company's expense. Her hostel mate suggested she use the opportunity to go to Pune for free and buy them the famous Pune saris at a lower cost! She collected Rs30 each from everyone who wanted a sari. When she looks back, she laughs at the reasons for her trip to Pune, but back then it seemed good enough to make the journey. During her interview, an elderly gentleman told her, "Do you know why we said lady candidates need not apply? The reason is that we have never employed any ladies on the shop floor. This is not a co-ed college; this is a factory. When it comes to academics, you are a first ranker throughout. We appreciate that, but people like you should work in research laboratories." Despite this, she was able to get the job. She became the first female engineer to be hired by Telco. I was in Pune today and my driver asked me a question - "Why is today not a holiday at any Tata company?", and after 25 years of being a Tata employee, the answer came to me almost instinctively - "He is not the kind of person that would appreciate the kind of self-aggrandisement that prioritises remembering him over doing a honest day's work". The first time I met him was when I was invited as a young engineer to present a strategic initiative at a board meeting. The culture that put a 30 year old in the limelight over 2 levels of supervisors above him is also the culture that Ratan Naval Tata embodied. While I was waiting outside for my 5 minutes of glory in the Taj hotel where the board meeting was happening, I regularly saw him walk out, ostensibly to take a break, but in reality, to escape the numbness of PowerPoint and instead, speak to janitors and security staff, asking them about their jobs and lives. There are 2 kinds of nobility - the first kind that comes from being insightful enough to realize that doing philanthropy is a good look, and the kind that comes from being so much at peace with ones role in the world that building the nation, mentoring the next generation of leaders, being extraordinarily humble and patient, and not amassing astronomical amounts of personal wealth are simply non-deliberate acts of just being oneself. You don't do things because they are the "right" things to do. You do things one way because other ways do not even occur to you as options. The Greek inscription that greets everyone that walks into TCS house in Fort, Mumbai reads "Walk the Straight Line", a quote attributed to Eustace Ralli when he was asked what his business philosophy was. The quote could not describe Ratan Tata any better. When I finished my presentation to the board, he asked me - "Do you mind if I ask you an unrelated question because you seem like someone that might have some insight into this". Yes, the chairman of the board asked a 30 year old for permission to ask a question. That was Ratan Tata. He asked me with a soft smile - "I've been persuaded strongly by my PR team to start using social media, and I have tried, but I don't understand one thing - why are people so angry all the time?" Go well, Ratan Naval Tata. There are great businessmen and there are great nation builders. Very few are both.

Hey everybody here I go with the amazing last corporate session experience at Pune Institute of Business Management with The Director of talent acquisition of Flipkart "Sumit Premi " He started with very beautiful phrase "slow and steady wins the race" The moral of the story is that slow and steady wins the race. This is the version of the story that we've all grown up with. But the story still continues: The rabbit was disappointed at losing the race and he did some soul-searching. He realized that he'd lost the race only because he had been overconfident, careless and lax. So he challenged the tortoise to another race. The tortoise agreed. This time, the rabbit went all out and ran without stopping from start to finish. He won by several miles. The tortoise did some thinking this time, and realized that there's no way he can beat the rabbit in a race the way it was currently formatted. then challenged the rabbit to another race, but on a slightly different route. The rabbit agreed. They started off. In keeping with his self-made commitment to be consistently fast, the rabbit took off and ran at top speed until he came to a broad river. The finishing line was a couple of kilometers on the other side of the river. The rabbit sat there wondering what to do. In the meantime the tortoise trundled along, got into the river, swam to the opposite bank, continued walking and finished the race. The story continues... The rabbit and the tortoise, by this time, had become pretty good friends. Both realized that the last race could have been run much better. so they decided to run as a team this time. They started off, and this time the rabbit carried the tortoise till the riverbank. There, the tortoise took over and swam across with the rabbit on his back. On the opposite bank, the rabbit again carried the tortoise and they reached the finishing line together. To sum up, the story The fast and consistent will always win the slow and steady. Know your strengths and weaknesses. Leverage on your strengths and minimize exposure to your weaknesses. Pool resources and work with a team. We learn more from failures than successes. Situational leadership is an effective way to leverage on one another's strengths. The second insight was the importance of group study......Eliminates Procrastination, Improves Teamwork, Fast Learning, Develop Communication Skills, Bridge Learning Gaps, Learn New Study Skills, Improves Problem-Solving, Source of Motivation... The last message was to know our "weakness and strength" find how good you are in that particular act and then analyze your ability of perfection , judgment, confidence. Find the things in which you believe that you can do far better than others Do that see the result and compare your self ,check your confidence.
