Work-life balance - a term often thrown around casually, which can mean a whole lot of different things to different people. The amount of hours worked and flexible working arrangements are two super important factors here - along with things like extra-leave, support for parents, and the rest. Some parts of the construction & property industries aren't known for being super well balanced... More than half of you work over 45 hours in a typical week! I hope you're being well looked after (... paid enough) And a lot of you aren't given the support to WFH regularly. There's some overlap between the WFH crew and the long-hours crowd, so it's not as simple as some roles & companies bring more balance across the board. What does balance mean to you? Do you want to work fewer hours AND work some of those from home? Is one more important than the other? As we move into some warmer months, we all want more time for friends and family, BBQs, trips to the beach, a swim at lunchtime - you name it. What makes the #dreamteam and the #dreamworkplace? Today, our team came together for lunch and our team meeting. I asked the question, 'What do you value most in a workplace'? This wasn't about our workplace, just workplaces in general. Based on everything we are constantly hearing about workplaces, you would think of things like flexibility, work/life balance, work from home etc. However, none of these came up, instead the comments were about feelings of connection, purpose, people, culture and psychological safety. If you don't have these things in place, then all of the cool office gadgets, ping pong tables, chill out zones, work from home etc really don't cut it. Invest in culture first, create a workplace where people feel safe and inspired, then look at everything else! #leadership #team #donthatemonday

Before I start my working day, I’ve made an executive decision to hit the beach for an hour of soul fulfilling time, with my 3yr old son, mother and my mind. #feelingblessed - I am free to be ambitious, be successful and still enjoy being a mummy. Not everyone has this liberty. As a #motherinbusiness I have to bend and flex to make it work and be successful but there’s one thing at Twist Design, as a remote first business owner, that I won’t flex on…and that’s maintaining our work life balance, having time with family and protecting mental well being. How do you balance life and work? Are you free to succeed? Our economy does not suffer as we work from home, managing our own time and output - and we need to stop forcing people back to the dreaded commute, 9-5 and back into the office!
