Restoring landscapes has become crucial for sustainable development, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa. The vision is to transform degraded landscapes from poverty-stricken areas with shrinking soil fertility and #biodiversity into ecologically diverse but, at the same time, productive regions with high climate #resilience. Such landscapes would entail many economically attractive income opportunities for the rural population, so the impulse to emigrate would vanish. #Foodsystems #Foodsecurity #Ruraldevelopment #Agriculture ➡️https://ow.ly/3ZTC50Q2Z1m

Gazetted forests encroachment had been a challenge in most regions of Kenya.Neighbouring communities have been interfering with forests lands for settlement, firewood, farming and grazing.Nyayo Tea Zones Development Corporation came in over three decades ago to help in protecting gazetted forests.NTZDC adopted a tea buffer technique to separate households from forest land. They plant tea as buffer to help the communuties have a reliable source of livelihood and keep off forests land.Tea plantations have created all form of employment to the neighbor communities.About 98% jobs are set aside for the neighbor communities. I believe that Nyayo Tea zone development corporation has played a big role in environmental conservation, livelihood improvement and Climate change mitigation. #Environmentconservation #livelihoods photo📷NTZDC planting tea buffer along Mt Elgon forest
