The most passive aggressive customer experience award goes to…. Both of the discounter retailers (you know who they are but I won’t name here) for the beeping of the POS terminal, demanding payment while you’re sweating and flinging your shopping into bags as fast as you can. It’s the equivalent of the cashier impatiently tapping their foot. I get what it’s trying to achieve… but, really?! The Peak End Rule tells us that people judge an experience largely how they felt at its peak and at the end rather than how it felt throughout. This is an example of how good customer experience design can either send people off happy or, in this case, stressed.
