Without one, they faced catastrophic consequences. A "fault" with a cable caused a surge of power across the electrical network, and the airport relied solely on a generator to manage the situation. However, the generator took seconds to kick in, which was enough time for the baggage operations to shut down completely. As a result, up to 90,000 travellers experienced severe disruptions, including delays and cancellations. This incident underscores the necessity of UPS systems, which not only provide immediate backup power during outages but also ensure the power remains "clean" and stable, protecting sensitive equipment from damage. AP--Thefts of charging cables pose yet another obstacle to the appeal of electric vehicles (12 June 2024) Thieves are increasingly targeting electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, intent on stealing the copper wiring contained in the cables due to its high conductivity. Charging stations in several states, including Nevada, California, Arizona, and others, have been frequent targets, with the Seattle area being a particular focus. Charging companies report that it has become evident that the thieves are targeting the copper inside the cables. In late May, the price of copper reached a record high of nearly $5.20 per pound. This increase is partially due to the growing demand for copper in EVs as part of efforts to reduce carbon emissions.
