Founder of WRK/360 - Coaching Employees and Managers navigating Care and Career from Parental Leave through Elder Care | Fair Play Training Director & Facilitator | Mom of 2
Are you a family-focused family? A parent-focused family? Or a Kid-focused family. Brené Brown shares in an interview with Tim Ferriss how and why her family "puts the family as the system that we serve." The goal of a family-focused family is to make decisions together. That could mean be everything from afterschool activities to new jobs or travel and everything in between. The goal is that what you decide on serves the family and aligns with YOUR family's goals. (But as Brene clearly shouts out, even in family-focused families, the parents make the final decisions). For #workingparents this is tough. This week, during one of our Parents & Caregivers at WRK program sessions, we discussed this very issue as we embark on a new school year and with it many transitions to our schedules, routines, and commitments! In our session it, most of us agreed that we want and strive to be family-focused families, but the demands of #paidwork make it difficult. Often our kids are in after-care programs into the evenings which limits their ability to participate in extra-curricular activities, so it feels like we are stuck in a parent-focused family. Meanwhile, we feel the #guilt of watching what appear to be kid-focused families where their kids seem to participate in everything (but remember, it's not always how it appears!) But there is a solution! At WRK/360, we teach the #FairPlayMethod through our Fair Play at WRK programs. Fair Play breaks down how to align your family values and helps everyone (even kids!) to understand the #invisiblework behind running your home and family, and positions your family and home as a system. These tools help you create a family-focused family where you connect on your values, respect & value everyone's paid and unpaid work, and build a framework to more equitably manage the home. And bonus...it helps organizations and leaders recognize the bias against caregivers in the workplace and narrow the leadership gap! Interested? Sharing information about Foster the Family and Chosen’s upcoming FREE trauma-informed virtual training, “Parenting with the Brain in Mind”. Parenting children from hard places presents unique challenges. This training empowers you to apply a brain-based approach that makes sense of both your child’s behavior and your own feelings as a parent. Often, “big behaviors” reflect lagging skills rather than willful defiance. Discover how difficulties with attention, organization, and emotional regulation can be the root causes of many behaviors and learn practical ways to support growth in this area. Additionally, we’ll address blocked care—when our nervous systems shift into self-protection mode—affecting connection with our children. Gain the tools to foster empathy and rediscover your joy in parenting. September 14 from 3-8pm EST from the comfort of your own home or join a FTF branch near you for a simulcast (with dinner and community!) here: https://lnkd.in/gHrgbyX7 #ThisIsFosterCare #FosterCare #ThisIsAdoption #Adoption #FosterCareSupport #FosterFamily #BeTheVillage #EveryoneCanDoSomething
HEY FRIENDS! We’ve got EXCITING news to share! We are thrilled to announce that Foster the Family is partnering with Chosen to bring a FREE, trauma-informed virtual training to families across the country! Chosen’s educator, Bethany Hall, will walk us through their carefully curated curriculum, Parenting with the Brain in Mind, where we will discuss the impact trauma has on development, how our own nervous systems struggle as we work through Blocked Care, and practical ways to support not only our children, but also ourselves! We understand the ups, the downs, and the crazy in-betweens that foster and adoptive families face. We’ve walked in your shoes— felt our hearts both burst and break between the unexpected joys and the grievous goodbyes while navigating the challenges that push their way into our homes. That’s why we are here to support you through every step, and in every season, and are so confident that this training will speak wisdom, encouragement, and hope into your life! Join us on September 14 from 3-8pm EST from the comfort of your own home or join a branch near you for a simulcast (with dinner and community!) here: https://lnkd.in/gHrgbyX7 #ThisIsFosterCare #FosterCare #ThisIsAdoption #Adoption #FosterCareSupport #FosterFamily #BeTheVillage #EveryoneCanDoSomething

Welcome fellow parents to our gentle parenting guide on raising empathetic children in today's world. Teaching empathy towards our little ones has never been more important. As parents ourselves, we understand the challenges of instilling values like kindness and compassion in our kids. Fear not, because we're about to embark on a delightful journey of empathy building. Picture this: your little munchkin sharing their last cookie with a friend who dropped theirs. That's the kind of heart-warming scene we want to see more of, right? So how do we turn our tiny tornadoes into compassionate superheroes? It's all about gentle parenting techniques - no capes required, just a whole lot of love and understanding. Let's start by leading by example. Show your kids what empathy looks like by being the superhero they need. Listen to them, hug them, and maybe even shed a tear during a touching movie - communication is key! Create a safe space where kids feel free to express themselves, even if it's about the monster under their bed. Empathy training starts early - from reading bedtime stories about friendly dragons to volunteering at the local animal shelter; there are countless ways to teach empathy while having a blast! And let's not forget about boundaries. Just like teaching a puppy not to chew on your favourite shoes, it's important to teach our kids about respecting others' boundaries. Now onto discipline - forget old-school timeouts and lectures! Positive reinforcement is where it's at. Shower your kiddos with praise when they show those empathy muscles flexing; trust me, they'll eat up that praise like dessert! Remember folks, raising empathetic children is like planting a garden; it takes time, patience, and lots of love. But when those little seeds of empathy start to bloom...it's truly beautiful! Join us in this adventure together with sprinkles of love, dashes of understanding, and plenty of giggles. We will raise new generation of compassionate superheroes who will change the world, one kind act at a time. Thanks for tuning in and don't forget to hit that subscribe button! Together, we'll make the world a kinder, gentler place. #EmpathyBuilding #GentleParenting
