This week, the diesel price slipped 4.6 cents to $4.015 a gallon, losing a good part of the increase experienced the previous week and returning to values close to $4 per gallon, such as those observed at the beginning of the current month. Despite, as we mentioned last week, the oil market is experiencing an upward trend and the average price for gasoline continues to climb slightly, reaching $3.628 per gallon, the diesel costs remain lower than prices a year ago. Let's look at the data: 🚛 Heavy vehicles (20 tons and above): Diesel fuel accounts for 30 % of the total transportation cost for these vehicles. 🚚 Vehicles between 19.9 and 3.5 tons: In this case, diesel fuel accounts for 20% of the total transportation cost. 🚚 Vehicles under 3.5 tons: For lighter vehicles, diesel fuel contributes 10% of the total transportation cost. A major cause of the price increase is the failure of OPEC (Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries) countries to agree to increase crude oil production after the global lockdown period caused by the pandemic. 🛣 In the road logistics sector, costs have increased by 32.8 %. This increase is due to a shortage of truck drivers in Europe, rising driver wages, and rising diesel prices. 🚢 In the maritime logistics segment, costs increased by 113.7 %. This is mainly due to the demand and supply of Pure Car Truck Carrier (Pctc) vessels, which have pushed rental rates to historic highs and increased the value of assets for new vessel construction. 🚂 For the rail segment, the cost increase was 24.2 %.
