Did you know that in 2020, women of color represented only 4% of Executive Directors and 9% of Board Members in nonprofit organizations? These numbers share the importance of establishing a more inclusive and equitable seat at the table when it comes to leadership positions and fundraising. - Building Movement Project, 2020 As a fundraising expert passionate about empowering underrepresented communities, I believe it's essential to include women of color in diverse leadership roles. We bring unique perspectives and share our expertise in understanding the communities we serve, which is why we are more successful in fundraising for them. Not everyone is content with just writing a cheque when it comes to making the world better. Some people really want to roll up their sleeves and make a tangible impact. Today is Day 30 of 100, to raise INR 1 crore for Mann, where I share daily updates on building an NGO. Recently, the Upadhyaya Foundation visited Mann! Apart from speaking to us online, they even took an entire day to really understand what we do. They wanted to speak to us about our pain points, and how they could make it better. They realized that as special educators, we saw the NGO not just as an impact center, but also as any other corporate business, with the hope to scale and grow in our ventures. This requires us to invest in our human resources, which the Foundation not only understood, but also supported. Apart from this, both organizations believe in the power of data and research. We have always wanted to conduct in-depth research about the impact of training and employment in the lives of PwDs living in poverty; as well as those that hired them. This would help in better presenting our data to future employers of Mann graduates about the shift in culture & inclusion policy in their workplace! Both wonderful initiatives, that can help us push the needle. We love working with donors who take such a hands-on approach and really care about creating sustainable change, not just making a donation :) #change #philanthropy #BeverlyWrites

𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐝𝐨 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐠𝐢𝐯𝐞? 🤔 This has been the question at the heart of our work since NextAfter was founded. If you think about it, donating to a nonprofit can seem like an irrational choice. After all, most people go online to get, not to give. But after analyzing over 6,000 case studies and countless donor interactions, we've found that the reasons for giving are as diverse as the donors themselves. Some give from a sense of duty, others to express their identity, and many to be part of a larger community or to address a burning frustration. 🌍 But here's the twist: understanding the 'why' behind each donation isn't a guessing game. It's a science 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐛𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐭𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧. 🧪 I've also learned that the real experts are the donors themselves. By engaging with them through testing, we let their actions guide our strategies. This way, we turn every fundraising effort into a conversation where each hypothesis is tested, and every idea is validated by real-world results. It's also important to understand that testing is more than a tool. It's a 𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐟𝐭 within an organization. It democratizes decision-making and empowers us with insights to drive breakthroughs in fundraising growth. So the next time you're worried about a new campaign idea failing, ask yourself: '𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐟 𝐢𝐭 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐧𝐞𝐱𝐭 𝐛𝐢𝐠 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭?' Testing and experimentation is about learning, and learnings from experiments are more valuable than the lift. Even a failed experiment can be valuable when you extract the key learning. #Philanthropy #NonprofitFundraising #DonorBehavior #OnlineFundraising #NextAfter

Queer Feminist Leader | CEO at I.G. Advisors | Strategy, Philanthropy & Fundraising | Opinions Only My Own
I'm fresh off the back of reviewing Cohort 4 applications for our #FixTheFlow Fellowship, and here is what I am seeing. This group of people are hungry to challenge the status quo and revolutionise the way we approach funding and philanthropy! The themes from the applications are exciting: 🔍 Disrupting Power Dynamics: Fundraisers and Funders alike are eager to dismantle the unequal power structures within philanthropy. An nonprofit applicant from from the Netherlands aspires to amplify marginalised voices, particularly BIPOC communities, while a Human Rights funder advocates for unrestricted funding to empower grassroots movements. 🌍 Global and Diverse Perspectives: Our fellows hail from around the world, bringing diverse experiences and insights. From a Vancouver based Fellow addressing donor engagement challenges to a Tanzanian organisation blending foundation capital with traditional ODA, this cohort (and the movement) will be a rich exchange of global best practices. 💡 Innovative Funding Strategies: in the Climate, Development and Humanitarian spaces, Fellows are driving innovative funding approaches. They are focused on sustainable, values-based fundraising, decolonizing funding systems, and building meaningful donor relationships to secure multi-year, unrestricted funding. 📈 Leadership and Collaboration: from aspirational leaders to whose who are already at the helm of big foundations or nonprofits, applicants have emphasised the importance of leadership and collaboration, leveraging networks to drive systemic change. 💬 Community and Peer Support: Fellows are hungry to find a supportive community to enable their individual growth (and, in many cases, stay sane!). Almost everyone highlighted the value of learning from peers, sharing experiences, and building a strong support network to tackle common challenges, and how rare it is to find the right spaces for this. We're in the process of onboarding Cohort 4, but after reviewing all the applications this week, we still have a few places left for Funders (Emerging or Senior), and Fundraisers (particularly Emerging). If you can get your application in by the 5th July, you will be able to make the kick-off on the 16th July!
