Many nonprofits exist to improve the lives of women, children and other disadvantaged groups. For me, this is exactly why it's so important to have women at the table where decisions are being made. Similarly, having a board that includes at least some representation of the people the organization serves can be really powerful. At Athena, I work with nonprofits of varying sizes - rather than entering into a binary gender debate, I believe we need to focus on fostering collaboration and inclusivity to drive meaningful change. So how do we empower more women to ascend the career ladder to executive roles in larger nonprofits, while encouraging men to address the issues affecting their direct communities?

With women set to inherit 70% of intergenerational wealth globally by 2035, their influence is also set to grow across the cultural economy. At a recent client lunch, Lucy-Anne Garnett of Citi Private Bank's Art Advisory and Finance team, and Sigrid Kirk, co-founder of Association of Women in the Arts (AWITA) explored the intersection of art and philanthropy. Volunteering has never been about spare time for me. It's about investing in a future where the brilliance of women and girls illuminates every corner of the world. As Malala Yousafzai so powerfully stated, "One child, one teacher, one book, one pen can change the world." Witnessing the potential unleashed when women and girls are empowered is a privilege and a call to action. Through volunteering, I get the incredible opportunity to be a small part of that change. Every hour spent mentoring young girls, advocating for women's rights, or supporting female-led initiatives is a seed sown for a more equitable future. Like you, we were looking forward to gathering with our national community of folks committed to justice and joy with and for girls, young women, and gender-expansive youth of color. Unfortunately, just one month out from the In Solidarity We Rise: Joyful Radical Abundance 2023 Summit we were notified of the withdrawal of a major sponsor. This puts us at a critical and unexpected crossroad in terms of covering the cost of the Summit. Because of this, we are rescheduling the In Solidarity We Rise Summit from November 2023 to Spring 2024. ⁠ ⁠ This was a very difficult decision to make because of the high-level of excitement about attending the Summit that continues to build across the country. We apologize in advance for any difficulty this creates and are working to quickly identify new dates which we hope to announce in the next few weeks. To be clear we are not canceling the Summit. Existing registrations and workshop selections will be carried over to the new dates and registration will remain open.
