“Technology is a key driver of competitive advantage as the #digital and physical realms are merging. The mining industry cannot afford to ignore this #trend because mining digitisation connects key #assets in and across the mine and across the mining value chain, including people, technology, and processes. This results in improved operational performance by enhancing visibility across the mining value chain and enabling real-time decisions based on current information. Mines can respond to changes in production, supply and customer conditions with greater speed and agility,” Alana de Wet (A), iOCO’s Industry Lead for Mining, Energy and Industrials, tells WhyAfrica. iOCO Leon Louw #whyafrica #technology #digitalisation #AI #machinelearning #africa #mining #exploration #naturalresources https://lnkd.in/dM2WXHn5

How can we mine smarter? It’s a question Grant Caffery asks in a piece for The Intelligent Miner - and it’s a question with real-world and real-time financial consequences. “AI and ML can typically achieve operational improvements of 10-30%, with potential enhancements, for example, in safety rates, consumable usage, utilisation and availability, ranging from 50% to 90% in specific use cases.” That’s an incredible achievement in continuous improvement, and in an era where mining is necessary to unlock the energy transition, it’s not an idea that should be passed over.
