It’s not just WHAT you know or WHO you know that makes the difference in career success. Who knows you and what they think about you also matters. So, what can you do in this New Year to make sure you’re known and thought highly of by those who matter? · Promote yourself The need to network broadly is obvious to the job seeker but networking within your organization is just as important for the gainfully employed. Excellent performance is not enough; you need to distinguish yourself in the office to earn promotions and recognition or, in some cases, avoid layoff. Don't wait for others to notice what you do well. Proactively market yourself and your skills to demonstrate and articulate why you are a value-added and indispensable team member. · Manage perceptions Your reputation, or professional image, is based on perceptions of your competence and character as judged by your clients, superiors, subordinates, and colleagues. Harness the power of social media to stay top of mind and build your personal brand both within the firm and externally. Just as you proactively develop the technical expertise and interpersonal skills you need for success, you must take responsibility for shaping the positive perceptions you want others to have about you. #careeradvancement #careeradvice #lawjobs #legaljobs #newyearresolutions For more insights into job search strategies, the legal industry, and the California legal job market, follow SeltzerFontaine LLC, and connect with me and ring the 🔔 at Valerie Fontaine.

Head of Intellectual Property at SPOTLIST Inc. Experience in IP Litigation & Prosecution [Patent & Trademark], Copyright, Software, Biotechnology, and Stem Cells.
This is a question that keeps popping up into my mind when trying to transition into a law firm setting. "How can someone transfer into a law firm setting with 0 experience in that setting?". The answer to this question is to keep applying to the firms and not giving up. This is what I have to tell myself everyday. No matter how qualified you are for the role, if you don't have the direct experience of working in said environment setting then it's much more difficult to get selected for the hiring process and potential offer. After speaking with numerous recruiters with this one question in mind and obtaining their feedback, something that I learned is "just be yourself". Opportunities come and go. It's apart of our job market that we live in now. No matter how difficult things get, keep pushing and putting yourself out there because you'll be able to find that opportunity of your dreams or even just getting your foot in the door. Have a wonderful day everyone! #inspiration #jobhunt #jobseeking #venturing #jobmarket #encouragement

Adapting the practice of law to best meet the needs of today’s attorneys and companies | VP Recruiting @ Paragon Legal | Bookworm
When it comes to staying in control of your job search and having your pick of opportunities both immediately and in the future, I can’t overstate the importance of being gracious in the face of bad news. Being able to smile, express gratitude, and maintain professionalism when things don’t go your way can be so hard but I’ve seen it pay off on so many occasions. I have several amazing colleagues who were candidates for roles other than the ones they have now. I was the runner-up candidate when I first applied to my former company. Four months after the crushing “no”, I got a call from the internal recruiter, and two weeks after that I was working for them. [An aside for the organization who is revisiting a former candidate: If you’re going to ask for someone’s time after you’ve let them down once, have a clear idea of what you need to make a quick decision, be prepared to answer the question of why you’re revisiting them now, and show that you’re appreciative of them reconnecting with you.] The legal world is smaller than you think, and trust me, people talk! Competitors know each other, and your reputation travels faster than you might realize. Handle rejection or withdrawing candidacy with grace, and you'll be the one people speak highly of. This truly can be as simple as responding to a “rejection letter” with “I’m disappointed to hear this news but wish you and the team nothing but the best. I appreciate the time you spent with me and hope our paths cross again in the future.” The job search can be a really tough game, particularly when things aren’t playing out in your favor but for employers and candidates alike, showing human decency and gratitude for the time someone has spent with you or your organization goes a long way. #RecruitingTipTuesday #ParagonLegal #Recruiting #JobSearch #Careers #CareerDevelopment #FlexibleLegalTalent

No one is “unemployed-proof”. Not even: - The most loyal person - The most tenured person - The most confident person - The most dedicated person - The smartest person - The most experienced person - The most knowledgeable person - The most confident person Why? Your position was eliminated, not you. You are worthy, smart, knowledgeable, dedicated, qualified, and valued. Your termination will impact you. It will challenge you. It may come close to breaking you. But it won’t define you. You are entering a new chapter of life. Don’t give up.👏 #linkedin #hiring #employment #career

I help leaders within the global infrastructure & construction market secure top tier contract management and legal specialist !
"Why do you want to leave your actual company?" 😬 As a Contract Manager 🏗 and Legal Specialist 📕 , how do you answer this question? I have a candidate who recently asked me this question. They currently work in a very toxic environment and don't know how to answer without discrediting their current company. 🤔 Let's be honest: no one wants to hear a candidate criticizing their employer in an interview, so here are my 3 tips to answer this question diplomatically but honestly: 1️⃣ Emphasize Personal and Professional Growth : You appreciate what your company has helped you achieve, but you are now seeking further professional growth opportunities that are not currently available. 2️⃣ Be Professional and Tactful: You have gained considerable knowledge and experience in your current job and highly value your company and colleagues. However, your personal goals and vision no longer align, so you believe it is time to transition to a new workplace where your skills and vision will be in sync. 3️⃣ Focus on Positive Aspects of the New Opportunity: You are excited about this unique opportunity, believing your skills and experiences are a good fit for the company. You can't wait to contribute to their team. Hope this helps! 😊 Please feel free to reach out to me if you need further advice and please don't hesitate to share your suggestions or experience!
