The panel we hosted at #ijf24 turned out to be a pretty lively discussion on what makes good (& bad) journalism training, how we can get it right & how funders can support media viability in the long term. Here are some snippets from panellists Jakub Parusinski, Susan Valentine and Daryna Shevchenko: 💙 Training should be combined with practical experience in the newsroom so that learnings can be applied properly. 💙 It should *always* consider and focus on the audience that journalists are serving. 💙 We should think more about what training is needed, and tailor it to the specific needs of newsrooms. 💙 Youtube and TikTok could naturally lend itself to sharing knowledge (but there wasn't universal agreement about the specific role these platforms should play!) I have been learning more about 'Upstreaming' in recent months, especially as our organisation has been facilitating Planet Youth in Scotland. The concept fits so neatly into what we are trying to do to help improve the lives of young people across the country from the get-go. Sticking plasters only offer a temporary solution!
