Sustainable Electrification: Access to clean energy for those who need it most Sustainable Electrification is one of the four pillars at the heart of our Sempra Infrastructure Foundation (SIF) strategy and is a key component of our efforts to create transformational change in communities throughout Mexico. We firmly believe that access to clean energy is essential for the development, well-being, and prosperity of our communities. In 2023, SIF allocated more than $1.6 million US dollars to facilitate the installation of solar heaters, solar panels, and backup batteries in facilities that support our communities, including care facilities, health clinics, and nursing homes. By providing these facilities with this equipment, we double the value of our investment – in the short term, we transform lives and ensure reliable access to electricity, and in the long term, we strengthen our commitment to the planet through the utilization of renewable electricity sources. These projects have a direct and long-term impact on the facilities where solar panels are installed. Solar power generation helps reduce the amount of funding the facilities spend on electricity, freeing up financial resources to meet other critical needs. These resources can then be allocated to the core mission of the entities, thus amplifying the ability of these organizations to ensure the well-being of those who need it most. Promoting sustainable electrification contributes significantly to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, and therefore decreases the carbon footprint of the recipient organizations. Last year, the installation of 597 solar panels allowed the facilities to collectively reduce nearly 207 tonnes of carbon dioxide. The effort helps drive the transition towards clean and renewable energy sources, building a greener and more resilient future for generations to come. So far in 2024, we have continued this effort so that more entities can access clean energy. In recent months, SIF has partnered with the Mexican Red Cross, both nationally and at various state headquarters; the "Efraim Hernández Xolocotzi" Botanical Garden of the Autonomous University of Nuevo León; the La Rodadora Museum in Ciudad Juárez; and the Food Bank in Puebla, among others. With sustainable electrification we champion growth, transform lives, and deliver energy for a better world. Learn more here: https://bit.ly/3S2PlWc
