For over a decade, LinkedIn has brought together talent leaders from all over the world to discuss the future of work at #TalentConnect. This year, at the dawn of the age of AI, the conversation carried added significance because those in attendance are in a position to truly shape where the world of work goes next.
Every system that exists around employment and entrepreneurship was built by people just like us, including the ones we inherited in our time. And just like those systems, the new systems required to meet the changing demands of work from AI, will be built by people too - people like those who were at Talent Connect, who I know first-hand are committed to bringing the right intent so that we build to the right outcomes - a world of work that expands economic opportunity to more people in more places than ever before.

Working with customers opened my eyes and changed my life | Being kind and assuming positive intent will help you see the world from a different perspective
With a keynote in a different city a day ✈️ it is my first visit to Las Vegas 🎰 in 2024 for Meltwater’s GSS. And I could not be more excited.
And I prepared a very special keynote for them.
Here are a few tips to a great keynote:
- Although you may be on an elevated stage, you are not the hero of this story, your role as a keynote speaker is to make every single person in the audience feel like they are the hero.
- Per Dr. Maya Angelou, it’s how you make them feel that they will remember.
- Spread Joy. There is enough pain in the world, we need more joy, joy is contagious.
- Prepare (your material). Prepare (yourself with rest). Prepare (for anything to go wrong)
- Get to know to your audience, introduce yourself to a few folks before you speak, ask a few questions, socialize. It will help you.
- Love the AV crew and have empathy for their struggles. Show up on time for your check. Do your thing and move on.
- Whatever happens: “The show must go on”. Keep going, keep talking. Do not blame anyone-work with what you got. Personal trick: i have an extra handheld mic right off stage. Just in case…
- Engage your audience, also known as crowdwork (one of my specialties) - give them an opportunity to make a new friend. 1 crowd engagement for every 20 mins you speak.
- Do not make fun of anyone in the audience. Period. But you can always celebrate / recognize top performers, team efforts, and hero stories.
- Be relevant, pick up a story you just heard that relates to them (Matt Dixon is really good at this)
and lastly … just have fun and don’t take yourself too serious. The audience will feed of you.

PS I became a better / more confident speaker by attending a Duarte, Inc. course. It helped me structure my story. 💙 to Nancy Duarte and 🙏to their crew.
Really enjoyed this portfolio career success planning event from TPC. Some key takeaways:
- Let your portfolio career grow organically.
- Find time to regularly plan and reflect.
- Create a buffer when you're transitioning from your day job to portfolio career financially and capacity-wise i.e. save up, fill the books, scale FTE back to 4, 3, 2 days.
- In the face of a quickly changing landscape, keep learning and assessing your skills. You could revisit Ikigai on an annual basis at this pace.
- The thing you feel most emotional resistance to is probably exactly what you need to be working on to propel yourself forward.
- Work on capacity planning. Plan for the unpredictable and allow a buffer for the things that will go wrong.
- To stay out of the feast and famine cycle, you need to be doing ongoing BD and marketing work even if you're at full capacity. You need to have clients in the pipeline at all times. BD varies depending on you and your biz - content creation, networking, personal branding, partnerships, client relationship management etc.
- Also plan for energy allocation: what gives me energy? What drains me?
- Play with your rates e.g. if I don't enjoy doing something, up your rates.
- The Sunday Scaries? Those are typically the feelings we made the move into portfolio careers to get away from. If it creeps into your portfolio career, outsource, up your rates, or end the gig.
- Work to live! Booking in your activities and wants first allows you to easily slot in client work.
