It's a new day, a new chance to grow, to refine the science, to shake hands, to pay off the hard work. Everything we do is a root in the rich soil. That takes strong relationships, knowledge and timing to do it right. And it all starts with a single seed. We do it together, the same way we have for generations. Because our roots run deep. Like our growers and the families they feed, we value simplicity. For generations we've used traditional crossbreeding so our seeds are naturally non-GMO the way people like it. It takes a true partnership between plant scientists and growers to make this happen. Together we improved disease resistance and develop new varietals. Partnering with researchers at leading universities. So wherever there's fertile ground, our seed experts are rising to meet soil and climate challenges for better yields, flavor and vigorous growth. Growers know that our seed is among the best for peas and sweet corn, and we continue to raise the bar, constantly protecting our food supply, identifying and improving traits, working to be better, stronger to feed families, right. Seneca has their own vegetable breeding program, and we trial a lot of the new varieties that we're developing here on this farm. We trial snap beans, Lima beans, sweet corn and peas. And those are all crops that we grow here in Wisconsin. Sweet corn, because it's so small and because it grows so big, those cells stretch a lot. And when they stretch like that, they if it's cold out, sometimes they'll burst and sometimes you don't get a good stand. That little story I just told you I learned from the people at Seneca. I didn't learn it at four years of college. And learn it 50 years of farming. I learned it with one phone call to the agronomist that said, here's what's going on and This is why you need to wait. As a family business, we build strong bonds with our growers, listening carefully to what they need, giving them best in class seed for their soil, their future. It starts by just sitting down and talking it out. Every handshake counts, Every discussion matters. We are listening at the root of it all. Growers know they can come to us with their challenges and we meet them on their turf to understand how we can make them proud to be Seneca growers. We've worked with Seneca for 30 years and and after you've worked with somebody that long, they pretty well know you and you know them. It's a beneficial situation for all of us I think. So we work with. A lot of family farms, and quite a few of them have been growing for us for for many generations, decades. We've been in the state of Wisconsin here for quite a long time. Well, they bring a lot of information to the table that we don't have access to. We grow a whole bunch of different specialty crops, and some of those specialty crops have to be planted after either a vegetable or sweet corn or peppermint. And with Seneca's vegetables, they're not anything that's going to interfere with the next crop that we grow. We partner with local growers and family farms, raising more than 200,000 acres of produce. And we've built our plants where the growers are, so fields are quickly harvested and canned at peak freshness, locking in nutrients to us. The clock is always ticking. At harvest, my crops are at their most colorful, fragrant and ripe. Strong hands joined together to gather the growing seasons prize. We rapidly harvest and hurry produce to the plant, always talking it through, always in harmony. Unity counts. Speed counts. Everyone plays a part. The cans that lock in our nutrients, well, we make them ourselves. We're proud to be the only US food manufacturer that does that. We make our cans to order for the sake of speed and quality. Our deep roots extend beyond what's expected. Folks appreciate that what you see is sustainable, nutrient rich, flavor filled efficiency at work. This is what a true market leader looks like. The yield of our growers. Hard work becomes the food on the family table. It happens right here. This means efficient processing without degrading vital nutrients or cutting corners on quality. We draw on our folks to make good on their promise to pack the produce they're entrusted with. Their success deepens our roots. Speed is met with safety. No detail is too small to let pass. Our people use sophisticated. Equipment to take a hard look at quality down to a single sweet pea. It takes the right software so our folks can sort, label and ship within five working days. A single day's work feeds thousands of families across the country. There's pride in that. Acres and acres of warehouse space and an active floor means product is always on the move. So we roll up our sleeves for work ready when the harvest is in coordination and experience are in our roots. We put our distribution centers where they're needed. That means lower freight costs. That gets food to the shelf fast. We've got folks hard at work keeping eyes on inventory so families get our food when they want it. Across the country, food sprouts up in cities, towns and countryside without disruption. We deepen our roots along the way, starting with a single seed and making sure food arrives in time for dinner. We're all family here, and our job is to feed yours. The depth of our roots lets us deliver something we call Farm Fresh goodness made great. It takes hard work, sure, but we're up to the task each day and ready for the next. There's really nothing we can't do if we do it together. It's in our roots. And our roots run deep.
Well done! Seneca and its grower partners should be proud of their role in putting high quality, nutritious, and delicious products on tables across this country. You are the best of the best!

We got chickens a month ago….and I almost backed out
I have been debating starting our flock of laying hens and meat birds for a while. We live on seven acres; it’s perfect. I knew my daughter would love them.
I went in with a friend and placed our order at a hatchery and began working on their coop. But I immediately began to second guess myself. 🤔
As with all major decisions, this is what we do right?
We question our decisions or think ourselves out of consideration.
Our brains are so good at that!! We immediately conjure all of the worst case scenarios and let them outweigh any positives.
Luckily, I followed through with it, and having them has been such a blessing.
Not only will we have fresh food, but my toddler now has duties every day 😊
and is learning to count by counting chickens, instead of numbers on a note card.
We are having a blast with these new additions to our homestead. And all the positives outweighthe negatives of my decision.
How about you?
Are you over considering a decision in your life? Or have you ever let negative possibilities rush into your mind after making a big decision?

In the spring of 2020, just as we were about to kick off our year-long campaign for Pyramid Brewing, the world abruptly shut down. We paused production and quickly had to rethink our approach to capturing content safely within just thirty days. With the world transformed, we leveraged our new understanding of how beer and social distancing could still bring people together. Our campaign highlighted emerging trends like fishing, paddleboarding, front-yard fire pits, and backyard birthday parties. By that summer, we launched a new campaign for Pyramid Brewing, embodying the spirit of "Refresh. Reconnect."

In the world of American Wagyu beef, the pursuit of excellence is an ongoing journey, and at Black Hawk Farms, we're dedicated to the relentless pursuit of perfection in every aspect of our craft.
One of the key metrics we focus on is the marbling score of our beef. Marbling, the intramuscular fat that gives beef its rich flavor and juiciness, is a hallmark of quality in Wagyu beef. Our commitment to excellence drives us to continually elevate our marbling scores, ensuring that every cut of Black Hawk Farms American Wagyu beef delivers an unparalleled dining experience.
But achieving higher marbling scores isn't just about a single leap; it's about constant, gradual improvement. It's about meticulous attention to detail at every stage of the process, from genetics and feeding protocols to animal care and handling, and finally, to the expert craftsmanship of our butchers.
By focusing on continuous improvement we are raising the bar for ourselves each week. Each incremental gain in marbling score represents a triumph of dedication and expertise, resulting in beef that exceeds expectations and delights the palate of discerning consumers.
At Black Hawk Farms, we believe that the pursuit of perfection is a journey, not a destination. Join us in celebrating the artistry of American Wagyu beef and the endless possibilities that come with Constant Gradual Improvement.

"Are you ready to lift? You and me, mostly you."
It was my first learning experience in scaling a company, on the farm.
My uncle would use that expression sometimes to lighten the situation of the jobs to be done.
The way we thrived on the farm involved four specialty areas and everyone was familiar with every area, and those jobs to be done.
Those four areas are: Planting, Providing, Harvesting, and Sharing.
Planting to create what we're going to bring to the marketplace.
Providing nourishment for what we're creating and learning experiences for each other throughout the season.
Harvesting what we bring to the marketplace, and the profits of our work.
Sharing what we've grown, as a family who gathers at the table for a meal together.
Sharing what we've learned, as a family who is more than a bunch of analysts…or as my uncle would joke, "a strong back and a weak mind."
More than just counting the chickens, and the eggs.
Planting, Providing, Harvesting, and Sharing together with collective wisdom and insights about a real forecast for next year, and what to do about it as a team.
We always needed more than one farmer to run this farm, and to back up the tractor and a hay wagon.

So Whataburger is singing super excitedly about bringing back the Buffalo Ranch Chicken Strip Sandwich. On the surface, this might seem like a straightforward re-launch of a fan favorite. But one must look beyond the obvious to understand such market / marketing moves.
Why this item? Why now? Let me explain.
Whataburger's core market is Texas. It houses 72% of it's restaurants. It has always been a Lone Star State favorite. (For the record, I love me a Whataburger over McDs ANY DAY). This supremacy is being challenged by a few new entrants. Especially by Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers. As the name suggests, Raising Cane's does chicken fingers really well.
Add to this, by the last count, Whataburger had about 56 restaurants in the Houston Area (It's largest metro market) while as this week, Raising Cane's is at around 49. Not far behind and catching up.
Given Raising Cane's Chicken Finger supremacy (Their menu has just 5 times...all based on Chicken Fingers), brands are in a need to respond with their own offering and build a chicken moat to strip off the competition's growth.
It would be interesting to see if this launch/campaign has the intended effect of getting folks excited about Whataburger for their Chicken menu and stop the customer bleed.

Chill your brine to 32°F or under.
And keep it there throughout the brining process.
It'll make it easier to get your brine into the meat and to stay in the meat.
A win-win if you ask us.
