The music fails! Dead silence as Carrie Underwood steps up to sing "America the Beautiful" at the inauguration...and the music glitches.
And in that silence, greatness emerges.
No blaming the audio team or throwing someone under the bus. No awkward pause.
Instead?
"I'll just sing"
She turns to the crowd with a smile, invites everyone to join her in singing a capella.
She instantly turned a technical failure into an unforgettable moment.
Pure leadership.
The "a cappella" version? Just listen -- it'll give you goosebumps.
Watch it become January's most-streamed track. 🎵
Takeaways for all of us:
* Stay cool when chaos hits
* Turn spectators into participants
* Make magic with what you've been dealt
The best leaders don't perform solos. They conduct symphonies! 🌟

This post perfectly captures how to turn adversity into opportunity. Carrie Underwood’s grace under pressure is a powerful example of leadership in action.
1. Stay Composed: When things go wrong, staying calm is key. Carrie didn’t let the technical glitch define the moment—she took charge.
2. Engage Others: By inviting the crowd to sing along, she turned a setback into a shared, uplifting experience.
3. Make Magic From Chaos: She embraced the unexpected, transforming a failure into an unforgettable moment.
4. Leadership Is Everywhere: You don’t need to be a CEO to lead. Leadership is about how you respond, inspire, and bring people together when it matters most.
A powerful reminder: great leaders don’t just shine—they empower others to join in.

How to make meaning of our of place in the Universe? An existential question that Bryan Cox grapples powerfully: "humans are the only known island of meaning in a sea of 400 billion starts." As an antidote to the violence we see around the world, watch Bryan Cox and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra on iview to see an existential question approaches with grace, music and scientific communication. Highly recommend: https://lnkd.in/ggd87NeB. And a 1 min summary (though less awe striking) here: https://lnkd.in/g9pN_NJt
Peace.
Proudly partnering with companies in the trades to develop their leaders. Empowering owners, managers and teams to show up authentically and intentionally.
Turning challenges into opportunities, inspiring others to join in, and being calm during uncertainty…true leadership!
Thank you for the example Carrie Underwood
Great perspective Neal K. Shah and Kimberly Delbo, DNP, RN-BC. Thanks for posting!
How are you going to show up today as unexpected change or challenges occur?
How will you invite those around you to lead through those challenges?

“Making the simple complicated is commonplace; making the complicated simple, awesomely simple, that's creativity.”
Charles Mingus aka“The Angry Man of Jazz” was born 102 years ago this month.
There’s a lot to unpack from that quote. When things are simple they are better. When things are simple they are adopted faster. When things are simple they are easier to implement. Simple saves time - simple sells!
Simple doesn’t mean cheap. It does take talent to simplify the complex.
Think about what you can do to simplify complex things in your personal or professional life.
To fully appreciate the quote, I encourage you to read more about one of the greatest jazz composers of the 20th century.
Living up to his nickname, his widow described him as “powerful…completely individual…volatile…strong…supremely honest and uncompromising.”
He was certainly a multi-dimensional person, a virtuoso and genius in his craft, but was able to make the most complex sounds so accessible.
