In a heartfelt conversation with India Today’s Rajdeep Sardesai, Infosys founder N.R. Narayana Murthy reflected on the profound leadership lessons he learned from Ratan Tata. Murthy shared that Tata’s ability to transcend financial status, official power, and intelligence in his interactions was one of his most remarkable qualities. Tata treated everyone equally, whether they were industry leaders or common people, always engaging with the same level of respect and humility. Murthy emphasized that this was a rare and exceptional trait, something he had not witnessed in many top leaders globally. In a world where people often create artificial barriers to separate themselves into different social classes or groups, Tata broke those barriers effortlessly. According to Murthy, Ratan Tata’s strength lay in his ability to rise above these divisions, making everyone feel valued. This, Murthy said, is the leadership lesson he learned from Tata—one rooted in genuine humility and compassion. #HumilityInLeadership #CompassionateLeader #EqualRespect #BreakingBarriers #RajdeepSardesai #BusinessIcons #ValueBasedLeadership #TataLegacy #GlobalLeaders #Philanthropy Watch: https://lnkd.in/gnGihTKF

The news about Thierry Delaporte's resignation from Wipro is yet another example of the importance of leadership. Two thoughts that have been on my mind since this announcement. 1. There were a lot of comments on the challenges a non-Indian faces being the head of an Indian company, to the point of questioning whether it can work. I hope as Indian industries and companies mature and expand globally, this is not the case. The Indian diaspora is very proud to point out whenever an Indian becomes the head of a global company, we should also be equally proud of non-Indians driving Indian headquartered companies. It can work. Just look at Dr. Reddy's Laboratories 2. One of the greatest description of leaders I’ve heard came from the great Osvald Bjelland. He said (I paraphrase here) “At the end of the day, leaders are people. Some want to do the right thing, others not so much. Some are arrogant, others humble. Some are there for the right reasons, others just for power. Some are smart, others are dumb. Some have massive egos, others have humility. Some were born rich; others fought their way up. Selecting a leader isn’t only about the credentials, resume, or achievements, but the personality, integrity, and value structure of the individual. That’s why it doesn’t always work.” #LeadershipMatters #CorporateCulture #BusinessTransformation #CrossCulturalLeadership #LeadershipQualities

Time for a Kutty Story ! 😁 🌼Leadership that Inspires: A Sweet Encounter🌼 My colleague Mohammed Dadaji and I had the wonderful opportunity to showcase our United Way of Chennai stall at Capgemini Financial Services for their NGO Mela, featuring beautiful palm leaf products crafted by the community. As the day drew to a close, we were preparing to wrap up when something unexpected happened. A group of global leaders arrived to visit the stalls, and among them was Mr. John Hilberts. Mr. Hilberts approached our stall and was fascinated by the vibrant colors and intricate craftsmanship of the palm leaf products. He smiled and said, "Let me take a picture of these and send them to my wife!" His genuine interest touched us, and as a kind gesture, we decided to gift him one of the products. However, He insisted on paying for it, but I told him that it was a gift from our side, and there was no need for money. Sometime later, he returned to our stall, still wanted to contribute. That’s when he said something that truly resonated with me: "I want to contribute to the community, not just get the product. I understand the hard work that has gone into this, and it's about supporting the livelihood of these communities." It was a very small but powerful moment that highlighted the value of leadership with a human touch. When leaders bring positive vibes and empathy into their work, the impact gets through the entire organization. His commitment to supporting others reminded me that leadership isn’t just about titles, but about lifting people up and contributing to the greater good. It was really amazing meeting you. Truly Inspiring!! 😊 #leadership #communitydevelopment #socialimpact #sustainability #capgemini #unitedwayofchennai

A Visionary's Legacy: Remembering Ratan Tata Ratan Tata, a true visionary, seamlessly intertwined technological innovation with social responsibility. In our #RiseToLead series, next in line is a woman forerunner in the industry who talks about leadership transitions in her career journey. Deep dive into how Ms Abanti Sankaranarayanan, Chief Group Public Affairs Officer and Member of the Group Executive Board, Mahindra Group climbed the leadership ladder. “Nearly two years have passed since I first met Dr Anish Shah, yet the memory remains vivid. After our discussion, he walked me out—an act of courtesy I had never experienced from a senior leader in my 28-year career. Initially, I thought it was just his personal demeanour, but my subsequent interaction with Mr Anand Mahindra revealed a deeper truth. He too walked me out after our conversation. It dawned on me then: this is the essence of the Mahindra Group. My conversation with Mr Mahindra was not centred on my role or professional accomplishments. Instead, he inquired about my family and my interests—it felt like a homecoming, reminiscent of my first company. As a graduate of IIM-Ahmedabad, India’s premier business school, I didn't meticulously plan where I’d be at 40 or 50. I followed the current, prioritising institutions distinguished by performance, purpose, and societal impact. This led me to join one of India’s largest conglomerates for my inaugural role. At Mahindra, my vision encompasses creating value and building business resilience through shaping policies with the government, anticipating risks, global leadership in Sustainability and thought leadership with internal and external stakeholders.” To know more about how Ms Abanti navigated her path in a leadership role, read the complete blog here: https://lnkd.in/ddgbMq9W
