Juneteenth marks the anniversary of the second Independence Day achieved in the United States. It is a day in which we honor the tireless efforts of abolitionists and activists who made it their mission to deliver the promise of freedom to all Americans. It is also a reminder that while our predecessors have made great progress, there is still much to be done to reach full liberation for historically marginalized peoples in this country. Here are some ways to honor Juneteenth: 🔸Learn more about the history and significance of Juneteenth 🔸Ensure that you are registered to vote and take a pledge to vote in the next election. 🔸Attend a local celebration 🔸Support Black-owned businesses 🔸Donate to and support organizations focused on civic engagement Remember, while Juneteenth is an important day in our history, it is more than just a moment: it is an everyday celebration. Let’s make it count! #Juneteenth #FreedomDay #DemocracyPrep

"The Leadership Conference Education Fund report — “Cause for Concern 2024: The State of Hate” — outlines the serious threat of an alarming rise in hate crimes since 2014. Each of the last four presidential election periods have shown an unmistakable pattern: Hate crimes increase during elections. The report, the most recent publication in The Leadership Conference Education Fund’s “Cause for Concern” series first published in 1997, covers this trend. And while not all hate crimes and hate incidents are committed by white supremacists, white supremacists have been particularly active during the last four national elections. From the mainstreaming of hate and the failure of social media platforms to adequately address disinformation, the current climate is rife with opportunities for the trend of increased hate to continue into the 2024 election — unless action is taken." Founder & NPO Guru | Helping Visionary Non-Profits in the Educational, Environmental and Socio-Economic, sectors to get funded and thrive | Secured over 25 million dollars in funding | 35+ years of experience
https://lnkd.in/d2a82pqD Did you know that Black women lead 60% of Black nonprofits in the U.S.? Despite their significant contributions, they continue to face systemic biases that hinder their progress. Here's a closer look at the challenges they face and the need for greater support: 1. Wage Gaps and Funding Inequities: Black women in leadership roles often encounter wage gaps due to sexism and racial discrimination, resulting in nearly $1 million in lost earnings over their careers. Additionally, Black-led nonprofits receive significantly less funding compared to their white-led counterparts, creating barriers to growth and sustainability. 2. Lack of Professional Development Opportunities: Many Black women leaders lack access to essential professional development and skill-building opportunities. This limitation restricts their ability to expand their services and develop their leadership potential. 3. Financial Instability: Financial constraints force many leaders to supplement their nonprofit income with additional jobs, which detracts from their ability to focus solely on their organization's mission and growth. Sound familiar to those of us in South Africa? Let's work together to break down these barriers and support Black women leaders in the nonprofit sector. Increased funding, professional development opportunities, and systemic changes are crucial to ensuring their success and the continued positive impact of their organizations. Share this post to raise awareness and advocate for equity in the nonprofit world. #BlackWomenLead #NonprofitLeadership #EquityInNonprofits #SupportBlackNonprofits

Love the idea of public service but don't want to become a politician? 20 years ago, I attended the Democratic National Convention. I was working on the presidential campaign at the time. There, I witnessed a then-state senator talk about unifying red states and blue states. It was inspiring, but it didn’t spark a desire to run for office. Instead, it made me realize that there are countless ways to serve your country without stepping into the political arena. Here are a few ways you can make an impact: 1. Mentorship Share your knowledge and experience with the next generation. 2. Nonprofit Work Join or support organizations that align with your values. 3. Community Involvement Volunteer for local initiatives or serve on community boards. 4. Advocacy Use your voice to champion causes that matter to you 5. Military service Be a part of something greater than yourself (I joined) You don't have to hold a political title to make a difference. Service comes in many forms. Find the one that resonates with you and dive in. How are you serving your community?
