It's Kota again. Another young aspiring talent gave in to the conventional demands. Though there are many steps to prevent this, counseling is one of the best ways to help students. Early career counselling is a valuable investment in a student's future, offering benefits that extend well beyond the academic realm. By reducing stress, facilitating informed decision-making, aligning choices with interests and abilities, adopting a holistic approach to development, and preventing missteps, early career counselling becomes an indispensable tool in empowering students for a successful and fulfilling professional journey. 3rd Year Marketing Student | Expertise in Esports & Content Creation | Edwards Co-Op Student Seeking Opportunities
I highly recommend working outside of your expertise at least once. This past June marked possibly my last year as a contracted Educational Assistant as I head into 2024/2025 in search of a Coop placement. Having spent nearly 2 1/2 years in education, I can say without a doubt, it is one or the most rewarding yet under appreciated jobs out there. Learning how to educate young people on skills ranging from manners to fine motor is not for everyone. It requires patience, perseverance, and the willingness to constantly further one's knowledge on different techniques and strategies. This year uniquely presented challenges with sanctions changing the routines of staff and students alike. Of course, this in turn made the year quite stressful! However, seeing children's improvement from the beginning of the school year compared to the end makes it all worth it. It is so incredibly rewarding to make a difference in the lives of not only the kids but also the families that remind me so much of mine growing up. While my parents struggled to raise me with little to no English, I was so happy to be able to help newcomers from Vietnam feel at ease when I spoke the same language as them. I also loved being a familiar face to other Asian Canadians in the school that were ecstatic that I ate the same foods as them. I remember going into my first day as an EA so nervous and afraid that I'd mess up. Looking back now, it's that fear that led me to where I am today. I've learned countless strategies and techniques, met and understood kids from all walks of life, and worked with the most passionate coworkers I could have had the joy of working with. I can't recommend enough working in industries you don't see yourself ending up in. It helps you gain perspective and therefore become infinitely more compassionate towards others. It also helps you gain skills and learn more about what you enjoy doing. Although education is far from the marketing world I want to be in, I wouldn't have traded the experience/knowledge for anything. Of the hundreds of pieces of advice I could give from my experience, I would like to say this: you're never too old to learn. ✨

How early is too early to introduce primary children to the concept of careers? 🤔 There has been an ever-growing debate around many teachers and parents voicing apprehensions about introducing 'careers' to young children. They fear this could push them to mature prematurely, nudging them towards specific career paths. It's a valid concern: childhood is a time of dreams and possibilities, not limitations. However, it's crucial to demystify what 'careers education' means for young students. 💥 Career-Related Learning ≠ Career Decisions The focus should be on career-related learning and exploration. 🔭 It's not about choosing a profession at age 10. It's about exposing them to a world of possibilities and helping them develop essential life skills. 🌟 It's about igniting curiosity, fostering resilience, and nurturing a love for learning that will serve them well into their future. 💡 And this includes understanding different jobs, nurturing self-awareness, and learning how various skills apply in the working world. Let's discuss: How can we ensure that careers education in primary schools is about broadening horizons, not limiting them? Share your thoughts in the comments below!👇 #careerseducation #schools #students #8billionideas
