We cannot get over this cute photo sent to us by our colleague Lucia Janosikova, capturing her daughter recycling aluminum cans in a reverse vending machine. 🤩♻️ It makes us realize that every day our work positively impacts the lives of millions of people in the five countries where we have already implemented the IT solution for the Deposit Return Scheme. Our software gathers all stakeholders in the process chain within one reliable and robust system. This is one of the main pillars successfully contributing to the collection of more than hundreds of millions of beverage containers so far, ensuring that the valuable materials are recycled and reintegrated into the circular economy. As a result, our parks, forests, rivers, and urban environments have become significantly cleaner, free from plastic bottles and aluminum cans litter. 🏞 This is a huge benefit for kids and youth in our countries, who can grow up in a cleaner world and learn about the positive impacts of recycling. 💚 Would you like to see which countries in Europe already have the DRS in place and how high are their collection rates? If you saw my previous post, you would know I spent my Monday walking around Westminster dressed as a yoghurt pot. Why? Because 8 in 10 citizens across the UK miss one or more items from the recycling which could have been recycled. But how do we know this? (I hear you eagerly cry)... To further mark the start of Recycle Week, WRAP published the 20th edition of the #RecyclingTracker - the longest and largest running survey of its kind. We surveyed 5,438 adults in the UK to understand the knowledge and behaviour held by UK citizens when it comes to Recycling. The recycling tracker highlighted not only that key items are getting missed from the recycling, but knowledge and confidence on what can/can't be recycled is on the decline. However, when citizens recall communications from their council on what is and is not collected - or assets from one of WRAP's brilliant recycling campaigns - they report higher levels of knowledge and confidence. That's why Recycle Week is a fantastic example of how the research we do at WRAP directly shapes the actions we take and the actions we call others to take as well - citizens, government and businesses alike. Read the full published report at: https://lnkd.in/gu5rTEDZ or watch the video below for more key findings. https://lnkd.in/gkqiAUEB And many thanks to the fab team who pulled it off - Mark Roberts Prartna Raj KS Jessica Gates Jennifer Marcotte-Ouellet Lizzie E. School may be out for the summer, but that doesn’t mean learning about sustainability should end. As your kids clean out their lockers and backpacks this year, remember the best practices for plastic waste. Some items you find can be recycled rather than discarded in the rubbish. For example, these all-plastic items are accepted at our #10to90 collections sites and can be placed on a recycling pathway: ✏️ Plastic pencil cases ✏️ Water bottles ✏️ Classroom caddies ✏️ Plastic storage bins ✏️ Folders ✏️ Protractors ✏️ Rulers ✏️ Tape dispensers If you reside in Houston, please consider bringing your school-related plastic waste and other plastic materials to one of our eight locations. If you live elsewhere, be sure to check your municipality’s list of accepted materials. Use this link to learn more: https://bit.ly/3GRESXH

Recycling household products can be a simple way to help the environment - but it's not always straightforward. What are some other surprising items that you might think are commonly recycled, but that your council is very unlikely to take in your recycling collection? Did you know that unless we take action, within 30 years, the amount of plastic in our oceans will outweigh the fish in them? 🐟 It's Recycle Week, and we're rightly worried about the state of our oceans. 🌊♻️ When hundreds of people get together in one place, like in your school, there's going to be a lot of litter created. But there's also a great opportunity to make a real difference to recycling. This year's Recycling Week theme is "Rescue Me" which encourages people to look for items at home or at school that are commonly missed at recycling which actually can be recycled. Things like yoghurt pots, cleaning sprays, toilet roll tubes and aerosols. Why not encourage everyone in your school to spread the word about these lost items and ensure they are recycled in the right places? If you really want to make a difference in recycling in schools, we've got a course all about it, too. Take a look at the course page linked in the comments and get in touch for a free trial of our incredible compliance system (and access to over 300 courses). 📚 #recycleweek #rescueme #waste

TLDR: Don't put these in your recycling as of next month! 1) Items less than 50mm (e.g caps, small cosmetic and spice containers) 2) Aerosol cans (steel and aluminium) 3) Liquid paperboard (Tetrapak and juice boxes) 4) Plastics 3, 4, 6 and 7 5) Aluminium foil and trays 6) All lids 7) Items over 4 litres 8) Wet wipes/ Soft Plastics/ Plastics without an ID number ----------- New recycling rules nationwide starting February 1st! Although recycling isn't the best solution for the planet - resource extraction, transport, energy etc etc. It's still much better than sending everything to landfill --> which does happen often if the truck driver believes his load is too contaminated So let's all do our part! :) https://lnkd.in/gzzy-EFD

Confessions of a #ClimateDad Ep.03 My 5-year old asked me to teach him more about...RECYCLING! ♻ Every morning on the way to school (unfortunately a longer commute than any of us would like), I ask him what he would like to talk about. Ranges anything from cars, travel, baseball, swim, vacation...and today...he said RECYCLING! 💚 As much as I would have loved to tell him that recycling is easy and that everyone should just recycle...it's not that simple. Lots of stats and sources that talk about this problem but here's a simple/short article that goes through the stats - tl;dr below: https://lnkd.in/g3VVEi5i - In America 🇺🇸 , the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates the US has a recycling rate of only 32%. It gets worse... - In America homes 🏠, it's closer to 21%... - Do Americans have access? 85% of single-family 🏠 homes, while only 37% of multifamily 🏢 homes have access to recycling. - Those who have access, only 59% choose to recycle... - 32% of cardboard 📦 is recycled, but ONLY 1% of rigid plastics (1.5m tons annually) So you see, it's not as simple as 'just recycle' - though that will go a long way. Plastics are incredibly difficult to recycle even when tossed into the correct bin and collected. Here's how you can help: - Don't grab a plastic bag for produce or at checkout at the grocery store. It's recommended to wash your produce anyway - Don't buy plastic water bottles, buy glass if you have to. Better yet, get yourself a water bottle. - Gift unwanted plastic goods like toys or kitchenware - Please choose to recycle...our health depends on it

Recycling initiatives such as #TheCupCollective can meaningfully contribute to the circular economy. This cross-sector initiative, active in five EU countries, aims to increase paper cup recycling to an industrial scale by creating the necessary collection infrastructure to significantly increase the recycling rate of wood fibre in paper cups. In Dublin, the programme has attracted county-wide support after its launch in October 2023, with 16 sites already participating in the scheme across the Irish capital. After being collected in special bins, paper cups are transported to the James Cropper paper mill, where they are then recycled and transformed into new paper products. Results speak for themselves. ➡️ Between October 2023 and March 2024, nearly 73,000 cups were collected in Dublin. ➡️ In October alone, recycling rates went up to 19.4% for paper cups on Dublin sites! EU policymakers should reflect on these inspiring achievements to establish a truly circular economy.
