The 2025 Parity Report to Congress highlights a growing concern; individuals struggling with mental health and substance use disorders still face significant barriers to accessing care. Despite parity laws, gaps in coverage and enforcement remain. This isn’t just a policy issue, it’s a human issue. When care isn’t accessible, outcomes suffer. Lives are impacted. Families feel the ripple effects. How do we move forward? Better enforcement of parity laws is a start, but it’s not the whole solution. Collaboration between policymakers, providers, and payers is critical to ensure care is equitable and available when and where it’s needed.

These sound great, and I am rooting for comprehensive implementation.

The New York State Department of Health and Office of Mental Health recently adopted new regulations related to hospital patients with behavioral health presentations. General hospitals will be required to develop new policies and procedures related to identifying, assessing, admitting, and discharging patients with behavioral health presentations.
