Community Engagement: Playgrounds encourage community members to come together, fostering stronger relationships and a sense of belonging. Positive Youth Development: Access to a playground promotes physical activity, creativity, and social interaction among children, contributing to their overall development. Crime Reduction: Increased community presence in public spaces can deter criminal activities. Active, well-used areas are less attractive to those engaging in illegal behavior. Improved Mental Health: Playgrounds provide a natural setting for relaxation and stress relief for both children and adults, enhancing mental well-being. Economic Benefits: Revitalizing public spaces can attract investment, boost property values, and support local businesses by drawing more foot traffic to the area. Educational Opportunities: Features like a performance stage and mural and poetry walks can offer educational and cultural enrichment, inspiring creativity and learning. Community Pride: A beautiful, functional playground can instill a sense of pride in the neighborhood, encouraging residents to take ownership and responsibility for their community. Enhanced Quality of Life: Overall, a playground improves the quality of life for residents by providing a space for recreation, socialization, and cultural activities.

Parkinson’s patients continue to grow in number. Visibility to this disease is seen in all aspects of our lives. Today Parkinson’s can be very normal work conversation when it wasn’t before. Celebrity death talk at the water cooler frequently includes the word Parkinson’s. Think about your work for a minute. Does your organization have a focus on disability awareness and advocacy? Really ? Does it? Do you have a Parkinson’s Hero in your organization? Many of us are always looking for things to get behind. Why not get behind your team. Does it make sense to give a Hero walk a go. Participation in these Hero walks just might be a way to communicate and strengthen your support both internally and in your communities. We are participating in the Grand Rapids Hero walk. Need a team to join. We are listed in the choices. We would love for all to join us in person or in spirit. It is a fun day.
