Happy World Maritime Day! (for yesterday if you’re ahead of the dateline, and today if you follow us Easterner’s into the sunrise) It being the 50th Anniversary of this iteration of SOLAS and pretty much 100 years since that convention began, it’s fitting that this year’s theme focuses on Navigating the Future: Safety First. All too often I think we find ourselves fixated on, “what went wrong?”, “why is this being done badly?”, and (sadly), “who can we blame?”, while we throw together another ad hoc checklist to make sure it isn’t me next time… And while yes, I’ve said it, and hundreds of thousands before me (and I’m sure after me) will continue to say, “it just ain’t good enough!”, I also think there’s something to be said for celebrating the things we do get right, and for looking at those who do lead the fleets, in order to help us navigate our way towards success, as opposed to towing ourselves out of trouble. So, while it was born out of a disaster of hubris, let’s remember what SOLAS is about, and the lives it’s helped to save over the years, cause I’d hate to think where we’d be without it, and the International Maritime Organization who drive it forward. #WorldMaritimeDay #NavigatingTheFuture #SafetyFirst #SOLAS #InternationalMaritimeOrganisation #IMO Australasian Marine Pilots Institute (AMPI) International Maritime Pilots' Association (IMPA)

FACT: Today is National Aviation Day in honor of Orville Wright's birthday. CONTROVERSY: There has been some debate on which state is worthy of the title "First in Flight". For those who call North Carolina home (such as myself) there may be some bias since the title is due to the legendary 12 second flight on Dec. 17, 1903, at Kill Devil Hills near Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. However, Wilbur and Orville spent most of their lives in Dayton, Ohio, where their outlandish idea of human flight were manifested into reality. It was there where those dreams turned to sweat that brought us to where we are today. QUESTION: I'm curious to hear from those who have a passion for aviation - past, present, and future - What state do you believe is most deserving of the title "First in Flight"? Today many may take these amazing machines for granted thanks to the wild ideas of those Wright Brothers. What also may be taken for granted is the crew members needed to operate these jets safely everyday. Do not settle for having "enough to get by" in your flight department. Let your crew get the support and rest they need and reach out to myself and the team at In-Flight Crew Connections should you ever need additional support in any of your business aviation personnel needs. Happy National Aviation Day.
Happy NATIONAL AVIATION Day! National Aviation Day is observed in the United States on August 19 each year to celebrate the history and development of aviation. It also celebrates the birthday of Orville Wright who, together with his brother Wilbur, made significant contributions to powered flight. Orville made the first flight for 12 seconds and 120 feet around the site of Wright Brothers National Memorial on December 17, 1903.

DID YOU KNOW: The world’s shortest commercial flight is in Scotland, which connects Westray to Papa Westray. The flight can be finished in 53 seconds, and it spans a distance of just 1.7 miles. The plane covers the 1.7-mile distance between two different Scottish islands and, at £17 per ticket, it’s actually one of the most expensive flights in the world on a per-mile basis. Phoenix Hypersonic Cruiser represents a bold vision for the future of aviation the Phoenix Hypersonic Cruiser, is designed for hypersonic flight, which typically refers to speeds exceeding Mach 5, or five times the speed of sound. Mach 5 is approximately 3,836 miles per hour (6,174 kilometers per hour) at sea level and can vary depending on altitude and atmospheric conditions. Therefore, the estimated speed of the Phoenix Hypersonic Cruiser would likely be in the range of Mach 5 or greater, which translates to over 3,836 miles per hour. https://lnkd.in/esitmjvW

HAPPILY RETIRED Strategic Product Marketing Media Public Relations Executive (FAA Licensed Pilot) & Philanthropist
Please watch this aviation video of a fellow Black pilot on YouTube, whose name is also Philip. His introductory message was so inspiring that I had to reply to him in the comments section. Normally I would not have responded, but as a Pilot myself, and knowing how hard it was to become one, my observational message was very easy to frame into words of encouragement. From one Black Pilot whose name happens to also be Philip to another, thank you very much for your inspiring aviation videos, along with your heartfelt introductory message to this particular video. Just like you my brother, I am also a proud Black man, who happens to also be a PILOT! Through our hard work, not only can we defy gravity, but can also ignore the BS from ignorant people who will forever remain grounded in their pathetic lives. As with ALL Pilots, whether you are Black, White, Brown, Red, or Yellow, this talented and proud group of both Men and Women represent less than 1% of the entire World’s population! Think about that for a moment, as this statistic is almost unimaginable! Why aren’t there more pilots, especially with inspiring videos like yours that are featured on YouTube? When I hear of stories of sad jealous people who want to knock people down, I simply look at their ignorance as the high octane (STEM) “jet fuel” needed for me to climb to the next level in life. The question that these sad souls should be asking is not about you or anyone else, but of themselves. In other words, what have they done lately. As for you Pilot Philip, keep on keeping on, as you aim your jet wash and wake turbulence towards those naysayers. I look forward to watching more of your aviation adventures and who knows maybe we’ll have the opportunity to fly with each other one day soon. Keep safe, fly high, and stay strong! Sincerely, Captain Phil 👨🏽✈️ ✈️ Click-On: https://lnkd.in/eTDGGSU9

Flying into Oshkosh, WI for EAA AirVenture is a “challenging endeavor,” to say the least, due to the extremely high traffic density — making it the busiest airport in the world for the week. The EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2024 Notice, previously known as Oshkosh NOTAMS, is essential reading for all pilots to ensure a safe arrival and departure during the 71st fly-in convention, scheduled from July 22nd through 29th . This 32 page read provides comprehensive details on procedures and policies, updated based on pilot feedback and FAA recommendations, crucial for navigating the airspace that will see more than 10,000 aircraft and hundreds of thousands of attendees. Here are the highlights you need to be aware of: changes to the FISK holding procedure, new TFRs in Milwaukee airspace due to the Republican National Convention and specified transition points such as Endeavor Bridge, Puckaway Lake and Green Lake to manage congestion. The Notice is effective from Noon CDT on July 18th through Noon CDT on July 29th, providing tailored procedures for various aircraft types. As emphasized by Sean Elliott, EAA’s vice president of advocacy and safety, thorough preparation and understanding of these procedures are vital for a safe and successful journey to and from AirVenture, where Wittman Regional Airport is expected to handle up to 148 takeoffs and landings per hour.
