The scam continues in Taiwan There is a TV ad by a so-called kiddie English school that airs occasionally in Taipei, Taiwan showing a young girl READING from a card a simple sentence in English supposedly proving her English-speaking skill. There are countless similar "schools" across Taiwan, as the one whose help-wanted ad appears on FB as seen Feb. 15, 2024, ostensibly training youngsters to speak English. They have been at it since the 1980s, so why is Taiwan still not brimming of English-fluent citizens? Because it is a racket preying on gullible parents who believe paying tuition to enroll darling John and Jane in such schools can turn kids into English speakers. They fail to see that a few hours of repeating simple English after the foreign teachers weekly to then return to a Chinese-speaking environment is akin being on a treadmill. Said schools do little but offer "great" jobs to marginally-employable foreigners, many of whom have no significant skills but mediocre command of English as mother tongue. One 30ish American guy who lived in our condo block years ago in Taipei confessed the English-teaching field is swimming with scammers, and that he worked in kitchens in NY City before arriving in Taiwan to "teach" English. Why is it a "great" job? Because you can shift into neutral on the job to use juvenile textbooks and techniques to mislead Taiwanese kids into believing they are "learning" English. The best part is said teachers are paid more than the minimum hourly wage in the west, or what most of them would be paid back home. #TheScamContinuesInTaiwan

Exciting times at the English Cafe! Once a month, Nago City Central Library becomes a vibrant hub of conversation and connection, thanks to the US Consulate in Okinawa, Japan. These free sessions are all about fun, engaging discussions. Think: planning holidays, crafting themed dinner parties, sharing travel memories, or even dreaming about a million-dollar windfall! Participants range from high schoolers to retirees. Instead of traditional teaching, I facilitate dynamic activities. You might chat with a neighbor, create presentations, and share ideas in groups. It's all about practicing English in a lively, supportive environment. Educators and foreign language learners, have you led or participated in conversation classes? Were they theme-based or focused on grammar? I'd love to hear your experiences!

Totally agree, especially when you see the outcomes of native English teacher policies and the reality of English proficiency in countries that rely on native English language teachers. All those countries could already top of the pop countries with high English proficiency if they would simply ditch that policies.
This is my face when I see other companies only hiring native speakers. Yesterday I announced that the Canguro Academy is looking for teachers, and in less than 24 hours I had to close submissions, because we had so many applications. I know this is a good problem to have. But the best part is that there were teachers applying from all over the world. In fact, only one of them was a native speaker. I know that each one of these teachers would bring different perspectives, teaching styles, cultures, humanity, and variety into the Academy. And my students would LOVE IT. Why would you NOT want that in business? If you're worried about language skills: you shouldn't. Lots of the applicants had better English than most monolinguals. If you're worried about students rejecting them: you shouldn't. Out of the more than 1000 students who have joined the Academy, only 1 of them has left because they didn't like the idea of non-native teachers (good riddance). In 2024 any company that hasn't woken up to the reality of English as a global language deserves to go out of business, and students should vote with their money. Students: please stop giving your money to people who sell the toxic ideology that monolingual English speakers OWN the English language. They don't: Language is a democracy and it belongs to the people.❤️

This is such a poor, outdated job application, hiring process You have extensive work, lived experience in the UK; such countries are leap years ahead of us, attract talent because they are efficient I beg of you to please transform how Govts (the largest employer in every country) in #Pakistan recruits Instead of putting people thru the 7 hells that is going to a National Bank's branch for a RS1000 challan, have online payment of application fee The user experience of Govt websites are untested, broken If short term, if we recruit for such roles in a corrupt way (as is the norm in #Pakistan's federal, provincial Govt functions), long term, we will hurt reputation to the point where we'd forever lose such windows of opportunity As it is, we have a negative global perception So please, I implore, beg of you, and all else in Govt to take hiring processes more seriously
Secretary, Special Investment Facilitation Council Secretariat (SIFC), Prime Minister's Office, Government of Pakistan
English teachers required in Japan. It is a relatively safe country to live for females also, with an option to apply for permanent residence after 5 years. An MoU between Pakistan & Japan is now in place for Human Resource collaboration. More vacancies soon...

When I advocate for our school, speak to colleagues, families, staff or prospective students I am often celebrating the work in an immersive bilingual school. Quite rightfully, the questions are often around measuring or evaluating what impact (both positively and negatively) bilingual education has on a child. Our NAPLAN results over the last two years demonstrate that our teaching and learning programs in both English and Japanese are value adds to our students. Large scale research supports this but so to does our data. All data shared identifies performance above similar school and network averages. When you benchmark this data against the reality of our students learning all mathematics content in Japanese and having a large proportion of Japanese literacy alongside their English literacy it begins to dispel some of the mistruths around bilingual education. These results are a great reflection of our teaching staff and our work. Yes, there is more to do (isn’t there always?) but it gives great validation and an authentic opportunity to audit the validity of our bilingual immersion work at our school. Really proud of our staff and our work! 👌
