Molecular Biologist | Director of Sales at Applied BioPhysics, Inc. | Sales, Business Development, Laboratory Testing
In a recent study (https://lnkd.in/gEPCgFHJ), Researchers from the University of Groningen established an in vitro co-culture model using ECIS to examine how real-time fermentation of non-digestible carbohydrates (NDCs) by gut bacteria affects gut barrier function. Lactobacillus plantarum WCFS1 and alginate-pectin were used to assess the impact of pectin fermentation on T84 gut epithelial cells. Encapsulation of L. plantarum in alginate gel proved effective, avoiding direct cell contact and creating anaerobic conditions. Testing with graded pectin loads showed increased protection of gut epithelium with higher pectin content, possibly due to enhanced short-chain fatty acid production. To assess the TEER (barrier function) of the gut cells, the researchers used Electric Cell-substrate Impedance Sensing (ECIS) where they were able to take measurements continuously in real-time while the cells remained incubated. This model offers a high-throughput approach to studying NDCs and bacterial fermentation products' effects on gut health. #GutHealth #Research #Microbiota #microbiology #invitro #ECIS To learn more about ECIS, click the following link: https://lnkd.in/gEqFH5Bt

🩸 In a study published in Nature Microbiology, researchers identified enzymes from Akkermansia muciniphila, a species of gut bacteria, that can metabolize mucus. These enzymes redesigned red blood cells and effectively increased compatibility between blood types. #Science #Biology #Health You can find the source and detailed part of the article on Darkpost: https://lnkd.in/dGmH_grb

Management of Root-Knot Nematodes (Meloidogyne spp.) Using Different Bio-Agents in Papaya Nursery. International Journal Current Microbiology Applied Science (2019), 8(8): 1934-1940. https://lnkd.in/gz8Qc7qX Various bio-control agents are found promising against root-knot nematodes. Therefore to study the effect of different bio-agents for the management of Meloidogyne spp. in papaya nursery, application of Pseudomonas putida, P. fluorescens, Bacillus amyloliquefaciens, B. pumilus, B. subtilis, B. megaterium and Purpureocillium lilacinum each @ 50g/m2 were tested in nursery having initial nematode population of 293 J2/200 cm3 soil. During experiment we have taken different observations viz., number of females, number of egg mass/3 g roots and number of eggs/egg mass and transplantable seedlings of papaya.

Happy international Microbiology Day, today I join the rest of the world to celebrate the uniqueness of the tiny creatures. Microorganisms, as an invisible invaders and amazing alies are one of the most diverse creations on earth. Despite the challenges faced by Microbiologist fac which includes: Limited funding, Complex research environments, High expectations for breakthroughs, Constant battle against antimicrobial resistance, Keeping pace with emerging diseases, Limited resources and infrastructure, Public misconceptions and lack of awareness, Interdisciplinary communication barriers among others. These challenges highlight the need for: - Increased funding and support - Improved research infrastructure - Enhanced collaboration and communication - Public awareness and education - Adaptability and continuous learning I am optimistic that with the right framework and available resources this profession will contribute immensely in making the world a better place. #internationalmicrobiologyday #microbiology #microorganisms #sustainability
