The First Version of Stripe - 2010

Stripe on their approach to reliability: Lots of deployments, lots of testing infrastructure, a "pre-production" environment that throws synthetic traffic against the APIs, and deploying to test-mode requests (i.e. requests that come from users' dev/test environments and don't issue "real" transactions) first once new code hits prod.

Launch Day 2 at Schematic! Stripe is great at checkout, but Product and Engineering teams end up spending a lot of time and money making Stripe work for their products, including implementing feature access, setting up entitlement policy, and configuring metering. With Schematic’s Stripe integration, you can synchronize customers and their corresponding products and subscriptions with Schematic, allowing you to link where you charge your customers with how you grant / manage the value being delivered to them. RecentIy I was working on Stripe integration and I want to share a small thing with you that happened with me and could cause problems with the program. Remember that there are storage limits with the metadata attribute if you are using Stripe. Mistakenly missing this can create problems in the future. These are the limits with Stripe's metadata, You can add 50 total key-value pairs within these data limits: key: 40 character limit. value: 500 character limit.

Still wrapping my head around how Stripe handles more 500 million API requests daily with a success rate of of 99.999%. 😲 On the other hand, we deploy new code in our core API services ~400 times daily at trillion dollar scale. We store the remaining days of their subscription when they pause, and then extend the renewal date when they unpause.
