Have you ever met someone so determined that they not only master a new career but also conquer a new language along the way? That's the story of Elena Malikova, my Day 37 shout-out in the '365 Days of Thank You' series. Our paths crossed at an Appraisal Institute candidate night, where Elena was on the hunt for a place to kickstart her appraisal career. She had moved from Ukraine not long before, carrying a fierce determination to excel in both her new profession and her new language. Elena joined me at Loop Capital and followed me to J2C Valuation -- and over the past seven years, she's transformed from a diligent trainee into a powerhouse capable of tackling complex appraisals like big industrial projects and ethanol plants. Her work ethic is something to behold – staying late is her norm, and she’s the definition of tireless. Witnessing Elena's evolution from needing guidance with English to guiding others in their use of the language is as impressive as her professional ascension. At J2C Valuation, she's not only a mentor to two newcomers but also my go-to person for critical projects. "I'm putting my best person on it," I say, knowing Elena will deliver impeccably, on time, and without fail. Elena's exceptional work ethic is mirrored in her personal life too. She's a single mom who not only cared for her former mother-in-law through cancer but also managed to bring her family over from Ukraine, all while juggling her career. Her ability to manage such profound responsibilities with grace is awe-inspiring. Does she have any quirks? Well...she does insist on total silence while she is driving – a fitting metaphor for her focused approach to life and work. From our first joint property inspections to her now confidently leading them, her path has been one of relentless growth and determination.
