#AuntMinnieEurope's Top 10 Stories of 2023 highlight the unrelenting pressure on #radiology to increase the productivity. Faster scan times, fewer errors, and the implementation of new standards are the dominant themes. Notably, amidst the "triple challenge" of #healthcare productivity (faster, better, cheaper - pick any two), the issue of cost has seemingly flown under the radar. In the face of ongoing financial turbulence, radiology departments are facing even greater pressure to optimize practices. This raises a critical question: will this pressure drive advancements in automation or will it ultimately lead to unsustainable pressure points within the system?

I think in those countries where radiologists' remuneration remains production-based, there is a tendency to persist in dealing with this increasing pressure. Instead of asking for a reduction in workload, radiologists will either accept it - which might cause burnout or severe fatigue - or find creative ways to diminish the pressure. However, a crucial question is whether practices are willing, or have the ability, to solve this problem with AI-based applications. Is there enough evidence already? In most of those countries they often have to invest in these solutions out of their own pockets and the ROI is mostly not evident yet. And for most of them it's difficult to 1. find the best solution for a specific use cases and 2. decide in what solution they should invest first. Unfortunately there is no "holy grail" solution yet. Furthermore, finding a "logistic" type of solution is even more difficult since these are not easy to find, although it would be much easier to develop these and bring them on the market.
