🔹 Ever thought about the role of government contracting as a middle man in our economy? 🔹 It's fascinating how they bridge the gap between the public sector and private companies. 🔹 But let's delve deeper into this dynamic relationship and examine the implications. 💡 Government contractors act as a conduit, connecting businesses with federal, state, or local agencies. 💡 They streamline processes, fulfilling essential needs efficiently and effectively. 💡 Yet, it raises questions about transparency, competition, and taxpayer dollars. 🔹 Transparency is key in ensuring that contracts are awarded fairly and ethically. 🔹 Competition drives innovation and cost-efficiency, benefiting both contractors and taxpayers. 🔹 It's a delicate balance between serving the public interest and fostering a competitive market. 💡 As a middle man, government contractors must navigate regulations, compliance, and accountability. 💡 They play a critical role in delivering essential services and products to the government. 💡 However, oversight and governance are essential to prevent misuse of power and resources. 🔹 Reflect on how government contracting impacts our economy and society. 🔹 Consider the opportunities and challenges it presents for businesses and the public sector. 🔹 Let's continue the conversation on the evolving role of middle men in government operations. #GovernmentContracting #Transparency #Innovation #Accountability #Economy #Society #PublicSector #Business #ThoughtLeadership

In Government Transformation: Reinventing Government: How the Entrepreneurial Spirit is Transforming the Public Sector by David Osborne presents ten principles that are reshaping the landscape of public administration: - Catalytic Government: Governments should focus on guiding and enabling rather than directly providing services. - Community-Owned Government: Empower communities to solve their own challenges. - Competitive Government: Inject competition into service delivery to enhance quality and reduce costs. - Mission-Driven Government: Transform rule-driven organizations into goal-oriented entities. - Results-Oriented Government: Fund outcomes over inputs, emphasizing performance. - Customer-Driven Government: Tailor services to meet citizens' needs as customers. - Enterprising Government: Generate revenue to fund services instead of just spending. - Anticipatory Government: Prevent issues proactively through strategic planning. - Decentralized Government: Shift control from bureaucracy to those closer to the problems. - Market-Oriented Government: Use market mechanisms to address public issues.

If Starmer's Mission driven government wants to work in true partnership with citizens, to solve population scale problems it needs work with the Civil Service to do these 5 things: . . . . . 1. Enable and incentivise cross government collaboration and data sharing so the missions can be delivered in a truly holistic way aligned to citizen and societal needs. 2. Work with the Treasury to re-define how budgets are released to fund outcomes rather than delivery milestones and outputs. 3. Create an environment that enables policy teams to work with citizens directly in partnership, to validate, pivot or kill early policy ideas to ensure they provide public value - creating real productivity in line with ongoing productivity reviews. Ie don't put long-tail delivery programmes for £100Ms into play if the policy isn't evidenced to benefit the public. 4. Create new policy standards that ensure policy has to be validated against needs, to provide public value - and a framework to measure that value. GDS did it in 2010 for digital, it can be done for policy. 5. Align HMT Greenbook to this new outcomes focussed citizen centred view of public value and delivery. #policydesign #publicvalue #policylab #election2024 #keirstarmer #citizencentred #citizenpartnership #publicvalue #publicdesignreview #civilservice #UCD
