EngLab@NTUA and QuAID³ were at Madrid for the 19th European Mechanics of Materials Conference and George Pissas presented recent developments on resolving fractures in long fibre composites. We very much thank the organizers for setting up a wonderful and inspiring venue. The new article »Architectures of Syntopia: An Interdisciplinary Speculative Model for Constructions with Insect-infested Wood« is out now, authored by Pelin Asa, Karin Krauthausen, Robert Stock and Karola Dierichs. The research was conducted at Matters of Activity. Image Space Material, Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces and weißensee academy of art berlin. Excited to get confirmation today that our paper, "Timeless Terrain: Medieval and Modern Mental Landscapes Today", with Katherine Weikert, PhD has been accepted for presentation at the Leeds International Medieval Congress. The paper explores how the medieval past can be leveraged to create an ideas-informed society today. One of the brilliant things about academia is the opportunity to make these interdisciplinary connections. Magneto-Hydro-Dynamics is a fascinating discipline, because it allows us to create processes that seem stolen from science fiction, but have an indisputable merit: they work. I'm talking about thermoelectric generation without moving parts, liquids that solidify instantly due to the application of a magnetic field, control at the molecular level of the deposition of materials, melting of metals with levitation to avoid contact with the walls of the crucible, pumping and mixing of liquids without moving parts, sails for the propulsion of space vehicles and ever new applications that researchers with particularly vivid imagination continually create. The common thread is the combination of Fluid Dynamics with Electromagnetism, conducting fluids that move within a magnetic field, and it appears surprising how such different applications are modeled by the same system of equations. We meet this year for the 13th edition of the Pamir in Carrie-le-Rouet, on the Côte d'Azur.
