President of RCS-CM LLC, Leader for Construction Management, Estimating and Scheduling Services and a Goldman Sachs 10000 Small Business Alumni.
As a Construction Management professional, I am often asked about my career journey and how I got to where I am today. While my path was unique, I believe there are key lessons that can be applied to anyone looking to grow in this field. In my case, I spent almost 12 years in the U.S. Air Force doing Construction Management. While I gained valuable experience, I realized that it wasn't all the right experience for the civilian sector. After separating from the military, I started as a Project Coordinator and worked my way up to Sr CM within 7 years. For those who don't take the military route, our company focuses on a career evolution that includes taking on different responsibilities and roles before moving up. Skipping levels can be a disservice to both the individual and the company. It's important to learn the importance of each level and perform well in order to become the best Sr Construction Manager one could be. While everyone learns differently and may progress at different rates, this is the general career progression I see for Construction Management professionals. Check out the attached photo for a visual representation of this evolution. RCS-CM LLC #constructionmanagement #construction #career

As I tackle the (admittedly tedious) task of updating my resume, I find myself reminiscing about some of the standout projects in my career. One in particular stands out: a $1.2M Air Traffic Control Tower installation project. This incredible undertaking, led by Tech Sgt. Alex Moreno, was completed in just 45 days by a dedicated team of 12 personnel — 8 active duty and 4 brand-new Guardsmen — from the Radar Airfield Weather Systems work center. It was executed in two phases and involved countless moving parts — literally and figuratively. For me, this project was unforgettable because it stretched every skill I had to its limits: ✔ Collaboration Across Industries – I worked closely with Army Corps of Engineers, civilian engineers, contractors, on-site safety representatives, the local work center, and the contracting office. Balancing and deconflicting priorities while maintaining smooth communication across all these groups was a rewarding challenge. ✔ Engineering Meets Project Management – This was a brand-new install, requiring meticulous planning and coordination to bring everything together seamlessly. ✔ The Physical Test – Fun fact: the tower’s elevator wasn’t certified yet, so my team and I carried all our equipment up to the top. For three weeks straight. This project wasn’t just about building infrastructure; it was about problem-solving, teamwork, and pushing through challenges to achieve something incredible. Working with such a diverse and motivated team, including the brand-new Guardsmen who brought fresh energy and determination, made it all the more special. Looking back, it’s projects like these that remind me why I love this work — every step of the climb (literal or figurative) is worth it. https://lnkd.in/g4am54Tj

Knowledge workers in the fire protection space (engineers/sales/estimators/etc.) who started out in the field—what advice would you have for your younger counterparts? Namely, those ambitious technicians who feel ready to leverage their technical expertise, critical thinking, leadership skills and hands-on experience to make that same transition to the front (or back) office in 2024. And perhaps more importantly, what do you think makes for a successful transition, and what advice might you have for such career-minded professionals?

I'm often asked by defence sector professionals: 'Why should I move into the contracting world?' I have highlighted below the main benefits to individuals of becoming a contractor. If this is a working model that may be of interest to you either now or further down the line, reach out for a chat. Flexibility: Contracting can empower you with greater control over your work projects and schedule, offering an improved work-life balance and the ability to pursue personal or professional endeavours. Higher Earning Potential: Contract work often rewards specialised skills with higher hourly rates compared to permanent roles, allowing you to maximise your income. Variety of Work: As a contractor, you'll have the opportunity to engage with diverse clients and projects, broadening your professional experience and expanding your skill set. Professional Development: Working across different projects and collaborating with various teams enhances your skill set, adaptability, and expands your professional network, opening doors for future growth. Hi, Trust & Safety network! I’m excited to share a side project I’m working on a Global Job Board for Trust and Safety professionals. Join me! Why am I doing this? During my last period of unemployment, I had a tough time finding new job roles. I had to navigate multiple websites, job aggregators, and job boards. I wasted a lot of time filtering and finding the right opportunities. Often, I encountered expired or filled jobs. Jobs advertised as “remote” were often actually hybrid or location-specific. There is no clear categorisation of our roles, and even the naming differs between organisations, due to the novel nature of our profiles. As a result, I decided to turn this frustration into something potentially useful for our community of professionals. I want to offer a place where you can easily find fresh opportunities that are a good fit for you. Sign up at trustandsafetyjobs.com and follow the page to stay informed about the launch. What do you think? Please share your feedback about this idea (you can DM me, but let’s aim to keep a public conversation going!). This will give me an idea of how many of us have faced similar challenges. Help me reach more people by sharing this post or commenting on it. Your support is massively appreciated! https://lnkd.in/dJRGknRU

Successfully engaged, as a consultant, in the restructure and training of a response capability, of an up and coming security company. Apart from producing a simple and effective SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) handbook, I developed and tested five training packages covering the essential elements of an emergency reaction force, i.e., Weapons Training (TOETs for 3 different systems), Emergency First Aid, Crowd Control, Asset Protection, and Legal Compliance (SIA regulations, Firearm Act, Security Act & relavant legislation). Instilling routine and discipline through basic rostering and routine inspections was no easy task so there had to be a minimum education and age requirement with at least 3-5 years of security experience. So, in order to be objective, I designed a program to guide the growth and development of this unit (short-medium-long term plan). Pictured below is the team successfully deploying for the first time on a VIP protection operation spanning a total of two weeks.
