Scrolling through LinkedIn, I came across a thoughtful question by GeeksforGeeks:
“If you could ask your Secret Santa for something, what would it be?”
My answer came straight from the heart:
Time My time Only my time with my elders 😇
Not just for me, but the kind of time our first and second generations experienced—quality moments with their parents, free from work, worries, or the interruptions of technology. They had the gift of undisturbed togetherness, a bond nurtured through simple, heartfelt connections.
As a teenager navigating the hustle of career-building and higher education, often staying away from home, I’ve realized how much this emotional bond matters. The late-night phone calls, the missed family meals, the longing for the care and warmth of loved ones—it all leaves a void that only time can fill.
And this longing isn’t limited to family. I think of the role of teachers in our parents’ generation—how they weren’t just educators but mentors, life guides, and second parents. They shared invaluable lessons, taught the importance of values, and built strong bonds with their students. But today, advancements in technology have reduced our interaction with them.
**Once a teacher always a teacher.**
We learn through screens, but no technology can replace the human emotions, wisdom, and life lessons that only teachers and older generations can impart. Their guidance is irreplaceable, and so is the bond they create. Yet, in the rush of deadlines and digital convenience, we’ve become bound by work, leaving little time to nurture these connections.
If I could ask my Secret Santa for anything, it would be time—time to reconnect with family, teachers, and mentors; time to listen, learn, and grow through these emotional bonds; and time to pause, away from the noise of technology, to appreciate the people who truly shape us. 😃
This is a truth that resonates with all of us, no matter which generation we belong to. Each one of us can relate to this desire for meaningful time, whether it’s the peace of the past, the lessons of today, or the hopes for tomorrow.😊
~ writing it from each of us (each 2nd ,3rd generation to their previous generations).
