Four years ago, I joined the Pinky Swear Foundation board, unknowingly on the brink of a global pandemic. And what a wild ride it has been! Here are some key takeaways from my experience: 1️⃣ Embrace Change: Just as we were gearing up for our annual fundraising gala, Covid-19 hit. The solution? An all-hands pivot from in-person to virtual events. This crisis turned into a learning curve wasa testament to our adaptability in face of uncertain times. 2️⃣ Simplify to Amplify: Our board leadership and the Foundation's executive team have diligently created a clear, focused strategic plan, our north star. It helps us avoid distraction, stick to the plan, and keep things simple so we can reach more and help more. 3️⃣ Foster Dialogue & Debate: Our board diversity is a huge asset- it sparks lively, constructive debates that fosters growth. A shout-out to the Board chairs I've worked with; your leadership has been instrumental in making these discussions fruitful. 4️⃣ Cultivate Gratitude: Every board meeting begins with a note from a family we've aided - a humble reminder of why the work we do is so important. It's not just about their gratitude towards the cause, but our unwavering gratitude for the chance to support this monumental mission. Cancer does not discriminate, and serving this cause has been a constant reminder to treasure the health and well-being of ourselves and our loved ones. While we aren't able to help every family who asks us for it - yet, we have been able to provide a tremendous amount of support. Over the last four years, Pinky Swear has supported more than 7,900 families with over $4.8M in financial grants all over the U.S. As I look back, I'm filled with gratitude for the lessons, the challenges, and above all, the impact we've managed to make. Here's to many more years of transformative experiences with Pinky Swear.

We failed. Growing too fast without a clear strategy drove us into failure. What originally started as a group of 25 people kitesurfing across Port Phillip Bay, raising significant funds and awareness for cancer, 3 years later became a group of 150 people in funny costumes hoping for a similar outcome, but it didn't. Our focus shifted away from our purpose experimenting too far outside what we knew and the outcome was failure and a bunch of good lessons; 1. Focus on sustainable growth 📈 2. Have a strategy that is aligns with your vision 🗒 3. Experiment within your limits and risk appetite 🛑 4. There is no such thing as failure, either you win or you learn 👍

An Engagement Manager at McKinsey & Company, Callie shares her memories and motivation as part of the American Cancer Society. What inspired you to join the ABOA? I’m inspired by the group of incredible individuals around me; by the young professionals doing incredible things in their careers and still dedicating time and effort to raise money for an incredible cause. The passion and stories across the entire ABOA group have motivated me, beyond my own personal loss of both of my grandmothers to cancer. What is your favorite memory from being an ABOA member? Skyline!!! The best event of the year and such a fun time to show friends outside of the ABOA the incredible work we do. When you think about your time on the ABOA, what are you most proud of? Every year seeing the money I raise, and getting to tell my friends how their donations and attendance helped me get there. If you could have dinner with 3 living celebrities (all together), who would they be? Beyoncé, Adam Sandler, and Sabrina Carpenter What is the best book you've ever read? The DaVinci Code What is your most used emoji? 💃🏻 If you played baseball, what would your walk up song be? “Psycho Killer” by the Pixi If you could live anywhere in the world for a year, where would it be? Be a chameleon in life and at work- take the best characteristics of those around you and act them, while avoiding those that don’t fit for you.

Thank you to the so many who have generously supported and are participating in LFFM June 12th at MoMA. I have been asked why the LFFM event has been embraced by LevFin/PE community. There are many aspects but here is my attempt to summarize: 1. Everyone has a story: all of us have been affected by cancer 2. ROIC focus: MRA invests with a sense of urgency on behalf of patients in high impact portfolio of research 3. Staggering Results: immunotherapy treatments developed and approved for melanoma has changed the treatment paradigm for cancer broadly (used or being tested in 30+ cancer types) 4. Network: LFFM provides a forum to come together, have fun, make a difference and become part of / have access to Milken healthcare related flywheel (MRA, Prostate Cancer Foundation, FasterCures, etc)
