Actioning insights from community and partnerships. Inspiring greatness in professionals 🌿🏙️💡 Environment, Planning, Transportation, Transit, Building. MCIP RPP, Lean + 6 Sigma, Prosci.
This article from Ontario Home Builders' Association highlights the broad complexity and innovative approaches to today’s challenges in creating new #housing. Cities such as City of Burlington, City of Kitchener, Sudbury - Canada's Resourceful City, City of Niagara Falls, City of Welland, and Town of Fort Erie are introducing new approaches such as digital portals, AI and new industry and education partnerships to improve submission quality and review processes. Major efforts and #continuousimprovement from all stakeholders are needed to overcome the current workforces hurdles and meet the need. My biggest take away is that we all need to work together collaboratively if we’re going to succeed.

Just yesterday, I had a chat with the CEO of a well-known Housing Association. He’s facing some tricky challenges right now, from the pressure to increase housing stock to retrofitting for decarbonisation and improving housing safety and that's on top of day-to-day maintenance. But here’s the thing, what about the people we need to make this happen? This morning, I checked Skillsminer and saw thousands of jobs in the housing and construction sectors ready and waiting, yet they remain hard to fill. It got me thinking, why are these crucial roles so difficult to match with the right talent? The answer, it turns out, is right in front of us. We simply need to engage, connect the dots, and unlock the talent already thriving in these communities. It’s about showing people that sector-specific experience isn’t the only path to a job. Their skills, values, and potential can offer so much more. Granted it's not easy but we need to start one building block at time, that’s why supporting Communities that Work’s campaign, “A Future that Works,” is so vital. My team and I see this work as mission-critical to our UK Economy. This initiative recognises that the need for talent and the availability of untapped potential are two sides of the same coin. If you’re curious about how to get your tenants involved or want to explore the hidden talent within your own community or team let’s connect. Right now we are offering free portal access for tenants. #AFutureThatWorks #Housing #CommunityEmpowerment #SkillsDevelopment #HousingAssociations

As workers continue to spend at least some weekdays in their home offices, cities continue to struggle with the financial impacts of quieter downtowns. Many city budgets are struggling to balance the shortfall. Investing in a healthy downtown is an investment in an entire city. When we create places where people can live, shop, entertain, and gather—as well as work—our cities are more resilient. Read here: https://lnkd.in/eeiS_tMW
