When Doors Remain Closed Despite Qualifications, It's Time to Forge New Paths... Despite holding a doctorate in Journalism and Mass Communication and over a decade of experience, I find myself at crossroads. It's quite disheartening to witness the rigidity of colleges and universities in #Chandigarh when it comes to hiring faculty — quite unlike the encouraging and dynamic environment I experienced in #Mumbai. It raises the question: How long must one wait for an opportunity? But life has a way of catching us off guard. Just when you think doors are closing, new ones open in the most surprising places. I've embraced a new role as an English faculty member for senior classes at a local school. This unexpected path shall allow me to continue my passion for teaching and connect with young minds eager to learn. Perhaps it's time for those in higher positions to reflect on the selection policies that may be holding back talented educators. Education thrives on fresh perspectives and adaptability, and so should our institutions. My 1st Job, My 1st Teacher In my first job, I had to travel from Koliwada station (nearest station from home) to Taloja (my work area), that’s approximately 50kms one side. I travelled from Koliwada to Belapur by train. And then Belapur to Taloja by a state transport bus. It was a tough ride. By the time, I was back home in the evening, I was half dead. 100kms of travel a day + field work in an Industrial belt. My Mom-Dad were noticing my schedule. One day, when i was home, looking at my state, My Mom said, leave the job. Why so much of torture? And My Dad, a rough and tough man, it was a rare thing to hear from him that day, Leave the job. Question: Did I leave the job? Answer: No, i did not. My 1st job is the bedrock of my 20 years of corporate career. Today whenever i struggle at work, i take a cue of how i would overcome the situations those days. It has taught me a lot of things. My reporting managers, colleagues and leaders (who i've watched from a distance) were Goldmine of learning. Those difficult situations and the bosses i've reported to, have been my true teachers. Parents, irrespective of how good/tough they are, they will always be soft and chicken hearted for their children. They will think emotionally. They may not be your right teacher in every situation. It’s the end of the most hectic term in the MBA journey – Term 1. From the first week, when nerves took over as I wondered what to expect, to now, where everything seems to have fallen into place. The packed academic schedule 📚, filled with case competitions, quizzes, and countless presentations, made this term both intense and fulfilling. The simultaneous inductions into various SCOs and SIGs added to the challenge, but they made the experience even more rewarding. Two key learnings from this term: 👉 Time Management & Prioritization: Learning to identify critical tasks and focus on those requiring immediate attention taught me how to balance multiple responsibilities effectively. ⏳ 👉 Collaboration & Perspective: Working with people from diverse backgrounds, each with unique perspectives, has broadened my thinking and helped me grow both professionally and personally. 🌍 What stands out the most from this term, however, are the friendships formed along the way. Being far from family, these connections became my strongest support system—professionally and personally—and I couldn’t have asked for a better group to share this journey with.
