There are many facets of an electric construction machine that make them an attractive option for the wider industry. Machines can operate with zero local emissions and can go a long way to assisting a company’s decarbonization goals and creating a safer environment for workers. They run with very little noise, which reduces noise complaints and eases communication. In spite of these benefits, IDTechEx’s “Electric Vehicles in Construction 2024-2044: Technologies, Players, Forecasts” report finds that financial savings in the total cost of ownership (TCO) of machines will be the primary benefit that drives the electrification of the industry. Exciting milestone for electrified construction from The Sweden-US Green Transition Initiative and partners today! The Sweden-US Green Transition Initiative, together with Atlas Copco, Husqvarna Construction, Volvo Construction Equipment, and local partners Kempower and EV Revolution, have completed one of the first all-electric construction projects in the United States. The installation of an EV charging station at Kempower Inc.'s new Durham, NC headquarters was powered entirely by electric equipment. This achievement highlights the potential for zero-emission job sites to reduce CO₂, noise, and emissions. This pilot project, evaluated in collaboration with Sweco, saved 258 kg of CO₂ in just four weeks and sets the stage for scaling up across the construction sector. As 33 million EVs are projected on U.S. roads by 2030, this is just the beginning! "The success of this project showcases how leading companies across the value chain can support decarbonization," said Linda Andrén, Executive Director, Sweden-US Green Transition Initiative. "It underscores the importance of collaboration and the significant impact that scaling these efforts can have on reducing emissions."
