April is Autism and Neurodiversity Awareness and Acceptance Month, a time to celebrate the culture and diversity of Autistic and Neurodivergent communities and promote acceptance and understanding. Embracing autism and neurodiversity acceptance goes beyond acknowledging Autistic and Neurodivergent people. Acceptance is an action and starts with listening and respecting the rights and humanity of those living with autism and neurodivergent conditions. It means creating a culture that challenges the stereotypes and societal barriers that Autistic and Neurodivergent individuals face, building a culture of inclusion and understanding. We encourage you to learn more about how you can be an ally and what it means to embrace and practice acceptance. 👉 https://bit.ly/3U1Q8rY

The abrupt halt in services and supports for neurodivergent students transitioning out of school is a significant barrier to post-graduate outcomes. Bridging this gap is crucial for their success in employment and society. Organizations like TACT - Teaching the Autism Community Trades are at the forefront of addressing this challenge. Their work not only fills jobs with skilled employees but also enhances outcomes for neurodivergent adults, benefiting the broader community. #Neurodiversity #Inclusion #EmploymentSupports #TACT #SpecialEducation #PostGraduateOutcomes
The Cliff Is Real If you’re an individual, parent, or service provider in the neurodiversity community, you are aware of “the cliff.” For those that aren’t, it’s when a neurodistinct individual hits 21 (or 22 in some states) and services stop. There are lots of programs for younger individuals that slowly taper off through secondary school age but beyond that… Not so much. Rules require that high school students have a transition plan, but studies show that only 43% of individuals in our community have access to vocational training. Without training and support, access to a real future and independence diminishes. That’s one of the many pieces of the puzzle TACT - Teaching the Autism Community Trades and the Colorado Neurodiversity Chamber of Commerce are addressing. This is one of the main reasons I felt compelled to write my book! If you haven’t yet had the chance to read it or order a copy, I urge you to do so. I believe it contains a wealth of valuable information. Summer is here, and if you’re looking for a good summer read, I encourage you to explore it! https://lnkd.in/gHCnSqGb

If you're an autistic author, like me, who writes about autism and autistic characters, then one way to learn more about the field is to join a community. Not only will you learn about autism but you can learn about yourself too. This is one reason why I joined the Endeesphere. If this sounds like something you want to learn about, you can find out more here https://lnkd.in/efN2nEKS
