Help us celebrate our Grand Hero, Program Director, Tracy Williams! For several years, Tracy has helped an individual and their family remain close. Unfortunately, the family recently faced a setback when their mother was deported. Tracy knew the impact that this could have on the individual in the home and set a plan in motion to schedule regular connection times. Aside from facilitating phone and video calls, Tracy went above and beyond to help the individual secure a passport and save money to take trips out to visit their mother. Last summer, the individual was even able to travel out of the country to visit her. We are so grateful to have someone with such devotion for those we serve! https://sevita.us/46RyRGN

Friends and Colleagues, As many of you know, I am a passionate Board Member for Dallas Pets Alive! One of the biggest fundraising events for us is TODAY, North Texas Giving Day. Our goal today is to raise $115,000 so we can continue our amazing life-saving work! If you’re looking to give back, please consider donating to Dallas Pets Alive. Every bit helps and makes a big impact! ❤️ Thank you for your support! 🙏 https://lnkd.in/gsZdDbjw More about Dallas Pets Alive: Your support during North Texas Giving Day is not just a donation; it's a lifeline. Every gift you make goes directly to programs that are transforming the lives of animals and their humans. Our Foster and Adoption program is a beacon of hope for the most at-risk animals in our partner shelters, while our preventative programs—like PASS, Dogs Matter, and Bark Dorm—work tirelessly to keep pets out of shelters and in loving homes. These initiatives are not just about rescue; they're about building healthier, stronger communities where animals and people thrive together. The need is urgent. Many of the pets that come into our care have medical conditions so severe that shelters simply can't provide the care they need. Over a third of the animals we help are Major Medical Cases, requiring $1,000 or more in medical expenses. In 2023 alone, we spent more than $400,000 on treatments ranging from basic vaccinations to heartworm treatment and life-saving surgeries. This year, as we've taken on the incredible work of Dogs Matter and face the overwhelming overcrowding in North Texas shelters, the number of animals in our care has more than doubled. For the first time, we have more than 500 animals relying on our programs. While we've made strides in fundraising, the financial demands have outpaced our resources.
Every year, amazing supporters like you come together for Dallas Pets Alive on North Texas Giving Day. Your contributions are indispensable; they fuel our ability rescue animals and transform lives. We need your support now more than ever! This is our Excutive Director, Leslie Sans with one of our adoptable dogs, Sparkles, to remind you that you have the power to save lives. There is no donation too small — every little bit makes a world of difference to a pet in need. https://lnkd.in/dkrKMr2G https://lnkd.in/gGBFxgpw
Happy North Texas Giving Day!

Giving back through volunteerism, financial investments, and promotion of local non-profits is an important part of being a community member. Since joining HUB International its been no different than when we started Great North Insurance. If you are willing to invest in the Great North Pole today... your dollars will be multiplied significantly! Here's how: $250 (your investment) x 2 (Scheels match) x 4 (GNP vendor partnership) = $2000 in winter gear for local kids in need. $250 = $2000 in gear!! Invest by clicking the link today!

Last night, Friday 2nd of February, 2024, we had 4 homes unaided until we received 2 amazing donations of £100 & £250. We spent £174 sorting those out last night, no home left without energy that we were aware of. https://lnkd.in/e3-PR3tr This morning, Saturday 3rd of February, 2024, we started with another generous donation of £5 (Every penny counts; we take no donation for granted); we added £300 of local funds. £481 in the pot. Today, we have had 9 referrals & have spent £384 in resolving them, so we have £97 left in the kitty. All these were financially resolved by 11:30hrs. I apologise for the lateness in this update. Eight have working heating now. However, one of the boilers would not restart. The friendly gas engineer who helped us has deemed it a Boiler Beyond Economical Repair (BER), the Landlord is not willing to replace it. He has said, he will issue a section 21 notice to remove the tenant. After 9 years of taking rent, and because the tenants work in a supermarket, even through hashtag #COVID19, they paid their full rent because as essential workers they were still earning money, the first time a major repair is needed this is the threat. It is a disgusting system, Sorry, I forgot to mention that we have provided the family with 3 electric heaters, and an electrician has been out and tested the immersion heater, which has not been used for years, and passed it as safe.

On the day I do my final run through for the wellbeing & volunteering session I am co-delivering for the Getting Ahead with Volunteering cohort with the The Open University I see this thought provoking article from Jess. It’s a great question to pose to volunteer involving organisations - how are we allowing prospective volunteers to peak through our windows? #volunteer #volunteering #whatcanIdo #whatwillthatlooklike #howdoesthatfeel #willthatworkforme
The biggest learning we've had from our research into barriers to volunteering for people with lived experience of mental health is the need for safety. Many people are coming to volunteering through social prescribing and other referral routes with past negative experiences of support through their volunteering or paid work. Tools like the #BigHelpOut are a great chance for people to peek through the window of a charity and see what's it's like without committing. How do you help people peek through the windows of your charity? #VolunteerManagers #MentalHealthAwareness #MentalHealth #Volunteering Vision for Volunteering
I want to volunteer……BUT…..

Recently, I was contacted by an individual who had noticed that the amount of help we are giving each household is a third higher this year than last year, but energy prices have not increased by a third. Well, the explanation is that when we first started, the average per person was around £10.50 (£34 per household), & now it is £13.52 per person, which is £44.10 per household. However, last year, the households were getting around £60 a month in energy support, which is now not being given. https://lnkd.in/eeMQh5mZ https://lnkd.in/eh4yQUpV We started today, Wednesday,14th of February, 2024, with 1 home unresolved, & we have added £300 of local funds to the pot, and resolved the home from last night, which left us with £261, It is 11 am and we have had 10 valid claims, and we have spent £246 resolving 6 of them already, and have 4 unresolved and £15 left in the kitty. It is Valentine's day, and people are going without heat and energy. PS: While I was typing this, we have received 2 more valid referrals. So we have 6 homes in need, 22 people.
