I just finished SAPIENS, A Brief History of Humankind, by Yurval Noah Harari. A few interesting parts, but the writing is a bit flat and the darkness of its overall premise that life is meaningless, the human race has generally been destructive to all other life, and humanity is “a race of irresponsible gods who don’t know what they want” overshadows the history telling of humanity in the book. This guy must be a hoot at parties. My advice for this genre of book is to stick with Bill Bryson’s “A Brief History of Nearly Everything”. Better writing and more informative. https://lnkd.in/gnxV7rDa

Daily Book Introduction Series: "The Spy and the Traitor" I present another compelling read in my daily book introduction series. Today, I bring to your attention a riveting tale of espionage and intrigue—"The Spy and the Traitor" by Ben Macintyre. This masterfully crafted narrative unveils the extraordinary story of Oleg Gordievsky, a high-ranking KGB officer who became a double agent for Britain’s MI6. Macintyre's meticulous research and gripping storytelling shed light on the shadowy world of Cold War espionage, the intricate web of deception, and the moral dilemmas faced by those who operate in this clandestine realm. "The Spy and the Traitor" is not merely a recounting of historical events but a profound exploration of loyalty, betrayal, and the high stakes of international politics. It is a testament to the bravery of individuals who risked everything for a cause greater than themselves. For those fascinated by history, geopolitics, and the intricate dance of spies, this book is a must-read. It offers invaluable insights into the delicate balance of power and the human elements that drive the machinations of statecraft. #BookIntroduction #TheSpyAndTheTraitor #BenMacintyre #Espionage #ColdWar #Geopolitics #MustRead #DailyReads #FalakShare
