In addition to gripping objects, the drone can be equipped with other payloads, such as Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) or Lightning Protection System (LPS) sensors, and rotate to inspect hard to reach or curved surfaces. However, researchers from Zhejiang University have developed miniature and fully autonomous drones that can navigate through narrow corridors and unknown surroundings in dense forests. These drones use a trajectory planner that can function in a timely and accurate manner based on limited information from onboard sensors. Will drone swarms take over last mile delivery? 📦 Researchers from University of California, Berkeley's high performance robotics on working on it. Using advanced control theory and a step-by-step control strategy, the team coordinate multiple drones for transporting payloads. The drones are connected to the payload, making the entire system act like a larger flying object with "thrust modules" where the drones are attached.
