Apple layoffs: iPhone maker cuts over 600 jobs after reportedly killing off its car project The tech giant has filed a WARN notice with the state of California. Since late 2022, every major tech company has initiated mass layoffs—with the exception of Apple. But now that is finally about to change. According to information the iPhone maker filed with California’s Employment Development Department, the company is preparing to let go more than 600 employees. Here’s what you need to know about Apple’s first mass layoff in recent years. WHY IS APPLE LAYING OFF EMPLOYEES? The layoffs appear to mostly involve a specific group of Apple employees—some of those who worked on the company’s electric vehicle project. Apple never publicly acknowledged the existence of its work on an EV, but the company spent nearly a decade trying to bring an Apple car to market. ___________________________________ Afraid the axe is coming for your position too? #HRNews Apple has reportedly moved forward with job cuts in 2024, affecting around 100 employees primarily within its digital service groups, including teams responsible for Apple Books and Apple News. These layoffs, first reported by Bloomberg, have not been officially confirmed by Apple, leaving questions about the reasons behind the decision. Despite the cuts, there’s no clear link to a shift in business direction or new technology. While Apple’s services segment accounted for 28% of its revenue in the last quarter, there’s no indication of issues within these services that would necessitate job cuts. These layoffs follow previous cuts earlier this year related to the cancellation of projects like an EV car and a smartwatch display, which resulted in about 600 job losses. Apple’s job cuts, although minimal compared to other tech giants, mark a significant shift for the company as it prepares for upcoming product launches. #AppleJobCuts #DigitalServices #TechLayoffs #AppleBooks #AppleNews #JobReductions #TechIndustry #BusinessStrategy https://lnkd.in/gfRdPUA7

Genuinely getting tired of these layoffs. Seems like the story is always the same: 1. Some executives make some poor decisions (like massively over-hiring). 2. Things don't quite work out the way they are supposed to. 3. Investors put pressure on the company to become more profitable. 4. Hundreds of people lose their livelihood overnight. 5. Repeat for extra profitability. How is it that Apple has become a $1 Trillion+ company while conducting almost no layoffs since 2008? Doesn't that just mean it's possible to do both?! It is so infuriating for thousands of employees to be starting the year like this. And some people are going to get million dollar bonuses because of this. This serves as a reminder that your job is a transaction between you and a company. Nothing more & nothing less. Put yourself & your family first in 2024. #layoffs

Never a bad idea to check the stocks and shareholder content (if you own shares) of the company you work for if you’re curious about the future of the workforce. The latest example hit today. Apple - known for rarely laying off teammates - has made some cuts today while their stocks are also down. Perhaps it’s just the beginning for them and yet it’s just a continuation for many other companies. “In a year when the tech industry has already cut almost 60,000 employees — with Apple's Big Tech peers slashing a considerable amount more from their workforce since they began layoffs in 2023 — that might not seem like a big deal. That's especially so when considering that Apple had about 161,000 full-time employees at the end of its last fiscal year. That said, the move to let go of employees at a firm that rarely makes cuts has significance.” If you have been impacted or think you might be - whether it means you’ll be taking on more work, or your job will be eliminated, or you’re a manager trying to navigate the wild world of change and transformation - there is no better time than now to engage with a certified and qualified coach. If you’re looking for a business or executive coach - reach out to me. What can it hurt to have an intro exploratory call. A lay off is a rough experience, even for a super positive personality like me. I will find the right place to call home, but here are a few things I did not anticipate and something I learned on the go. 1. I realized how important a job posting is to me. I don't want to waste either of our time. If you are clear about your needs, wants, who you are, and what you can offer, I will know if we could be a good match. However long it takes for me to find the "right" position with the "right" company is how long it takes, but one thing I know - both of us will be happy we took the chance. 2. Layoffs are happening... everywhere. Companies of all sizes and industries are struggling, and many for the reasons Tobi outlined. I didn't anticipate finding companies that were a great fit, but after a months-long interview process and being told I made it to the 🏁, the hiring freeze hammer came down. After confirming there was an actual hiring freeze, I picked myself up, dusted myself off, and concluded that I had dodged a bullet. But, you blink, and 6 months are gone. 3. NEVER stop learning. Udemy is a GREAT resource. Luckily, my chosen profession of Executive Assistant allows for unlimited side hustle and my brain is always hungry. I feed it with courses and lectures...anything I want to know about. ChatGPT, Lightroom. Premiere Pro, Project Management, and my personal favorite, just HOW MUCH can I automate with ClickUp automations?? You win some, you lose some. The only sure things in life are death and taxes... and that, no matter how much you are struggling, someone, somewhere wishes they had your life.
