15 years of professional sales experience helping people invest, sell and buy Real Estate in Luxury, Farms, Rural Properties, Cottages, Pre Construction and Commercial
Port Perry - a hidden gem for families that's become a beacon for those seeking the balance of small-town charm and trendy waterfront living. 🌊🛶 As a real estate expert in this beautiful locale, I find families are often searching for more than just a house - they're looking for a community, a lifestyle, and an escape from the city's hustle. That's exactly what you find here in Port Perry. But it's not just the serene lake views and the quaint downtown that catch the eye. It's the vibrant tapestry of seasonal events and festivals that bring this neighborhood to life. Imagine treating your family to: 🎨 Art in the Park - where creativity meets community spirit. 🍁 The fall fair - a tradition that weaves generations together. 🎅 The Santa Claus parade - where magic floats down the main street. 🚤 The Dragon Boat races - team spirit splashed with excitement. Now let’s talk about the lasting impact of these events: ✔️ Sense of Community: Gathering with neighbors strengthens local bonds. ✔️ Family Memories: Shared experiences that turn into cherished stories. ✔️ Lifestyle: A reflection of a balanced, enriched way of living. As families partake in these festivities, they're not just making memories; they're also investing in the emotional heart of their homes. And isn't that what truly makes a house a home? To my network: Have you considered how the cultural heartbeat of a neighborhood influences your choice of home? Let's discuss how community events play a pivotal role in the real estate allure of places like Port Perry. #PortPerry #FamilyLiving #CommunityEvents #RealEstateLife

"It will make you cry." - Stephanie Barber Geter. I was honored to meet and interview Stephanie Barber-Geter for my film "Buffalo: America's Best Designed City." (see an excerpt below) Mrs. Barber-Geter (1954-2024) was a "community pillar" for Buffalo - an original opponent of the destruction of Humboldt Parkway, and a tireless champion for restoring it. Eleven years ago, we released the film in which she appears, which now has 1.2+ million views. The film reminds Buffalo that it was once "the best-planned city in the world," and recounts how it later squandered that legacy in a series of tragic decisions: Buffalo rammed freeways through its one-of-a-kind world-class Olmsted parks; and for good measure, the city added a freeway all along the entire waterfront, cutting off downtown and historic neighborhoods from access to the Niagara River and Lake Erie. There really is only one path forward for Buffalo. It's especially obvious now that even the economic development experts (after so many failed silver bullet projects) have realized that the best economic development is actually #placemaking. Buffalo can easily reclaim its title as America's best-designed city - and it does not require some insanely expensive expenditure or innovative invention. The money and technology to fix it exist right now. It is eminently doable. It simply requires removing the freeways. This is not even a radical proposal anymore. #FreewayRemoval has been done in cities all across America and around the world, and it has worked every time. Milwaukee, Seoul, San Francisco, Rochester, the list goes on. Stephanie Barber Geter spoke the truth. Hopefully, other civic leaders will finally rise up and call for the removal of freeways, the reconnection to the waterfront, and complete restoration of Olmsted's parks and parkways.

The Fishermans Bend Place Naming Framework consultation summary is now available, reflecting insights gathered from the community engagement consultation completed in October 2023. Through this process, several key themes surfaced, ranging from honouring the area's rich industrial heritage and Indigenous culture, to preserving its natural environment and exploring opportunities for memorialisation. These insights are instrumental in shaping the forthcoming Draft Fishermans Bend Place Naming Framework, which will undergo community review later this year. Place-names are of major social importance, and not just matter of historical documentation. They capture invaluable cultural values that hold profound importance for individuals' well-being and sense of belonging. Happy Wednesday!! 😀 It's NATIONAL PRESERVATION MONTH! Author | C. Knighten National Preservation Month, also known as Historic Preservation Month is celebrated during the month of May to remind us about our Nation's heritage. Pervserving our historic buildings and homes is very important to our Nation and communities. Across our country, organizations promote various activities within our communities on the local, state and National levels. Preserving these places helps us to remember our History and the stories associated with each. Understanding our history is the key to improving our future. Without our history (ies) we might forget the lessons we have learned and should never repeat. Whether the story is found in your local library or your grandmother's attic, peeling back the layers of time🕰 helps us understand the past. Keeping these stories alive helps us provide a rich and textured history of the people who worked and lived there. Our imaginations can then begin to understand their hardships, what they overcame, and the difficult decisions they made in the face of adversity. Hot of the presses: NPCA's new report "A Cultural Resource Challenge for the National Park Service" is out today. We're calling on Congress to provide $250 million for long-underfunded cultural resources and history programs at America’s national parks. Out of the more than 20,000 staff at America’s national parks, only 138 are full-time historians. These 138 historians are tasked with the herculean effort of helping manage more than 26,000 historic structures, and nearly 185 million historic artifacts in the National Park Service’s possession. These findings cast serious doubts about whether the National Park Service has sufficient funds to play a leading role in celebrating America’s 250th birthday in 2026, an occasion that will no doubt require significant staff and resources. #NationalParks #CulturalResources #History #Historians #ProtectOurParks #America250

The “cosmopolitan canopy” is an island of inter-racial civility in a sea of segregation. Such public spaces are an increasingly common feature of many US cities. They grow organically and encourage mostly positive race relations. See my book, The Cosmopolitan Canopy.
